Are We Becoming 'Lemmings' in the Name of Political Correctness?

Other

Did you know that Canada has criminalised the act of not using pronouns for those who identify as other than male/female?

I have always said i would address someone who presents as male as he and those who present as female as she which would of course encompass the trans community. However, being forced to use grammatically incorrect words, possibly mistaking someones preferred pronoun or even having to remember to do so.......well i am sorry but i will continue to use he/she even if that silly law comes to the UK.

They say its to do with respect, well if thats the case are words like mister, miss, he, she etc signs of respect? Respect has to be earned by us all not just those who are confused about their identity, even encouraging people to identify as an animal seems to be ok now.

I think Alf Garnett was way ahead of his time in the 60s L , he used to call his wife a silly moo 😉

But joking aside i do agree with you on this, i would only do this when hell freezes over

telmel I had a feeling you would join this chat as we seem to have similar thoughts on many subjects.

Just as a rider this all started when I saw Sam Smith being shown on Piers Morgan uncensored on YouTube. As far as I am concerned I owe him no respect after his disgusting and shameful exhibitionism, I can think of better pronouns for him.

This guy says it so much better than me. I have listened to a lot of his lectures and interviews and can understand why the extreme left would like to shut him up.

telmel yes, he is a psychologist and a doctor and I just love the way he can put into words what a lot of people just can't articulate. I think the naysayers deliberately misinterpret what he says to suit their own agenda.

I can’t be bothered with this. To me it’s either male or female. I’ll call you something else if you want me to but will always refer to male, female when referring to them to someone else.

I respect the use of using correct pronouns but criminalising mis-use is excessive. I stick to using the person's name as much as possible - no pronouns required!

Consumer yes I am not sure why you would ever use anything other than their name whilst talking to them in person, so does this mean you are in trouble for using the wrong pronoun when speaking of the person to a third party. I can't think of any occasions when you would use they/them (or any of the others) when I'm their company. So it seems we're being told to use them when speaking to others ABOUT the person and that really is a step too far.

Anyone can call themselves what they want but don't expect me to do the same it's male or female and I'm sticking with that
