Fundraising/donation Requests

What is LD's take on fundraising/donation requests?
The reason I ask is because I am fundraising for Cancer Research by taking part in an Ultra Ballroom event and would love to get as many donations as I can.
It is done through a Just Giving page, so no monies come through me...
Thanks
Hey Metrovski
Thanks for the question and apologies we didn't respond!
In truth, I'm not sure we have a policy on this. I think there may be a reluctance because it could become a bit of a free for all with lots of people asking for help/donations. I also don't know if people would expect LD to vet charitable causes to make sure they're legitimate.
That said, we pride ourselves on creating a helpful and friendly community and it would come as no surprise to me if people wanted to donate and the chat section seems like a sensible place for it.
Would be good to hear anyone else's thoughts if they're passing by. Does anyone know if it's okay on, for example, MSE's forums?
One option might be to create a single fundraising chat thread to keep any requests in one place?
They're my current personal ramblings - I haven't spoken with Tom or Deepak nor any of the community about this so it is just my personal view
Thanks for your response Kelsey
I'd agree with having 1 thread for charity requests, and perhaps members are only allowed to post 1 post for their fundraiser, as to not turn it into a chat thread so to speak.
Allow members to perhaps boost their post once a month or something?
Hope that makes sense.
Also, to only have recognised donation sites, for example Justgiving...
My event takes place on 8th April, so I'm wanting to raise as much as I can before then!
MSE does have its own charity that gives grants so it may not do this. A search didn't bring up anything but I am not that familiar with the MSE site and I don't find it the easiest to navigate so it may be there somewhere.
I am interested in charities and there are times when a special appeal does fit into the kind of thing that this site does - for example the government is currently doubling donations to entrepreneurs through LendwithCare.org and trebling donations for those that make a regular contribution. This ends in March.
I spent several months trying to get a grant for a small charity that I support and it is incredibly difficult as the big charities like Comic Relief act like giant vacuums and others suffer and it would have been good to have had somewhere to put details of their emergency appeal.
I agree with the idea of the details of the appeal being posted but not turned into a chat thread as that would become a selling exercise and posting once a month is good although I think that monthly post should be able to be about more than one charity (ie one a month or the previous month's boosted)
