Giving Old Furniture New Life
Other
Sometimes people throw away old furtniture that's deemed rubbish but there are times when, if you have spare time for it, that you can recover it (clean, paint, etc) and use it yourself.
It's kind of a fun hobby if you have the time available to do so and it can cost you less than buying from IKEA (not to mention their products end up breaking to pieces sooner or later).
Yes my cousin does this as a hobby. Antique furniture is a lot nicer when it's revamped than flat packed rubbish Just a shame the people that do this charge a fortune for their projects. It's something I would love to do in the future.
I had a battered and scratched coffee table which i tiled with small kitchen tiles (4 x4) I had left over. It was great for my little lean to conservatory.
That's a good idea It sounds beautiful. My mum has a coffee table thats been decorated with teal paint and the centre has blue paper with birds on.
Yep, upcycling has become a big thing, and it’s very popular around where I live. You can turn old suitcases into foot stools, change the legs of chairs, it can be fun to see what you can change something into, giving it a new lease of life
I'm no hipster, nor in favor or against gentrification, retro collector or what have you but it's cheaper to just paint, polish and take care of doing it yourself than buying new furniture.
Heck, today I found a kid's drivable toy car in really good condition by the rubbish area. It doesn't have an electric motor on it but that's fine, I've already decided I'll be painting it red and black, among other things. I always wanted to drive one of those things but now, you know. Too late.
