What Your Go to Tips/ideas to Keep Kids Entertained during the Summer Holidays?
Ask a Question
during the summer holidays when the kids are off school, what are your go to ideas to keep them entertained on a budget? thanks
Type or write down things you can find in nature i.e. Butterfly, snail, daisy, oak tree, type of bird (sparrow, robin) etc then go for a walk in the park or wherever and tick off each find. Teaches about nature too.
Depending on age, get them to write a story then record on your phone or just read out and all add bits, correct grammar and spelling etc. Kids basic learning slumps during summer holiday so learning basic subjects with a twist is good. Get a big map on the wall and let them find countries and capital cities, my grandson loved this.
See how many kings and queens in history they can name, get them to spell their fave celebs names. Play songs and get them to name the singer or learn a tik tok type dance. Make cakes and biscuits. Watch a movie with curtains shut on rainy days with big bag of popcorn. Get them to help with basic chores and gardening!
Finally if you have a garden put up washing line and peg out sheets to make tents, put old sheets on grass and scatter cushions and let them have some tech time while you get on, a picnic (lunch) in the tent goes down well.
We play out in the garden, go on walks, draw pictures, sing songs, dance, go to the park. We go to the beach, the splashpool. We read books and act out scenes from the story. We aft out scenes from films/TV shows using his toys. We try to find things on our walks, either nature based or colours. He also helps with chores around the house.
