Good Advice on How to Outsmart Pickpockets, Particularly on Holiday

In the News

I read this article and thought there was some good advice there on how to keep yourself self from pickpockets

Anyone is vulnerable but the more affluent you look the more likely you will be targetted

There are two type of pickpockets, physical and digital

The first use methods such as hugger mugging where a person will approach you making you think they are a friend and hug you, while taking off your watch and jewellery etc

The second, digital is where they steal your card details via electronics

The physical pickpocketing can be avoided by playing down your wealth, eg not wearing expensive jewellery, watches or clothes , moreso on holiday

The second, digital theft , can be avoided by buying an RFID wallet , this blocks the electronic signals thieves use to steal your card details

Also if you think you may be targetted move to a more crowded area, these type of thieves prefer quiter surroundings

It’s so difficult to protect yourself from pickpockets and muggers so best stay at home with locked doors and windows.

I was going to get one of those RFID wallets but after reading some reviews on Amazon I wasn’t convinced that they actually work.

I use a waist bag when I'm abroad, I never take credit or debit cards, I'm always on high alert anyway lol

I either use a small back pack or waist bag and fasten the zips together with one of these Image

I always wear a bum bag, even when I’m not on holiday. I don’t wear expensive jewellery when I’m out and about and I never carry cash.

eyeballkerry actually I just got bum bag for that very reason and grandson had some of those Lockties other day and I got couple of him to lock zips together. Terrible we always have to think of these things before we can relax when out and not just on holiday

It’s better to keep bags in front of you where you can see everything not behind you or at side. Everything should be fastened closed and as fiddly as possible.

Having recently stopped on Southend on Sea high street and watched two police officers totally miss some shop lifters whistling to an awaiting person on a bicycle to collect their bags and scoot off I really don't have too much faith in our local police. However when it comes to people who pick pockets they ironically say 'watch the watchers' as they are the one's most likely to commit this crime. Don't worry I am not a pick pocket I just suffer from fatigue lol

I take as little as possible with me when away. I take very few valuables so they don't get nicked
