Good Article with Information to Protect Yourself from Fraudsters and Scammers
In the News
With so many frauds and people scamming online , any information given to protect yourself from it happening to you is welcome
It is said knowledge is power and this article is one of the best i have read recently , the scammer mentioned was a particularly bad piece of work that was thankfully caught and jailed for 7 years, but not before swindling women out of more than £300,000
Telmel, I think it is so scary these days with all these scammers. I had a Whatsapp message only yesterday from some unknown person claiming to have mistyped the number and then sending me a photo of themselves (allegedly, as a really pretty young woman. I smelled fake quickly but out of every hundred I wonder how many will fall for it and start chatting.
Then your bank gets hacked etc and its a nightmare. Maybe if the sentences were very harsh the fraud would decline but its just economically worthwhile for those without any scruples or ethics.
PaxAmerica Authorities are clamping down on this P, i watched a good doc a few months ago about a special online task force that get the scammers attention to bring them down
telmel I woud love to work on that team. I have seen them when they do actually go after them and smash their doors down in morning raids and lock em up. Its the courts that fail us mainly.
PaxAmerica The courts are the problem P, they are completely out of touch with reality and what goes on in the world
Scammers .Hate em and/or anyone who preys on the weak, the widowed and the vulnerable.Every other day a new one slithers by.I can smell em from a distance lol
its funny that the chat list reads like this:
Because scammers look at social media type sources for whatever information they can get on individuals to target them. What may seem totally innocuose can reveal a heck of a lot of private data. In the police the offciers are actually taught to avoid all types of social media footprints for this very reason. I would never introduce myself for this reason.People are posting photos and all sorts. Its really nice but its shocking how criminals minds work and see opportunities.
I agree with you on this one P, it is better not to reveal any personal info online, you never know who is watching
Received a call yesterday which had the number hidden so I didn't answer.
When it's like that, it can't be blocked either.
PhilipMarc Some handsets have a setting to block witheld calls or atleast they used to have that setting. Not tried that function in years
It's definitely on the increase, the amount of spam blocked calls on my phone is ridiculous
