How is Your GP Surgery?
Ask a Question
Needed to go to the doctor today.
Surgery opened at 8am, got through on the phone at 8:02am and got an appointment for 10:40am.
I was in the surgery for around 10 minutes at the most. They really are quite good in our area.
However, CousinofChimp, who lives in a different area, rang her one this week, was on the phone for over 2 hours and made over 100 calls
What's it like where you live?
My doctor surgery is ok. You have to give at least three days notice to be seen in person.
Still not seeing anyone in my area 120 calls to my gp one day last week just to be told no telephone appointments left its a joke only needed a review on my sons long term meds sorted now but not good enough
Our local surgery is brilliant. You can call and get an appointment on the same day most of the time. You don't tend to wait long in the waiting area either.
Our gp is a waste of time since covid every time you want a appointment they book it up online or a phone call before they make there mind up if you need to be seen in person plus I had covid and been let with a nasty covid rash on my back just giving me cream for over a year now which as not worked very well also working as a nurse at a busy A&E department we are seeing more and more people come in who can not get a appointment with their own gp
TheChimp that's not true most NHS staff work 60 hours plus like I do plus I travel to London each day its not front line staff like nurses and doctors it's there's too many managers they are the lazy one's it all comes down to lack of funding by the tories who want to privatise the NHS as they are doing plus the NHS is treating so many people from overseas remember the NHS is always here for all of us in a emergency and they try there very best
jdible I did work in my local hospital, albeit a long time ago.
I've also been a patient and the nurses did fa on the ward except have a gas at the nurse's station.
And when MrsChimp went to A&E not long ago, they were doing absolutely nothing except talking about going on holidays and crap when she was in excruciating pain.
Don't get me wrong, there are good nurses out there, but there's a lot of 'It's not my job' attitude out there.
When I was in the hospital, the toilet wasn't cleaned for over 18 hours. There was toilet paper and s*it everywhere.
You can't really get through to mine, then they won't book anything and get someone to call back that takes 2 weeks for a phone appointment, then if they want to see you from that you need to wait 2 weeks for a call to book you in and then physical appointment 2 weeks after that. Thankfully I don't get too sick too often
cant complain dr rings back same day, if they can sort over phone they will if not you get a time to go in, also you can do a online consultation where you fill form in and they get back to you as well.
My GP if you can manage to see them is quite good but most of the time it's garbage and you have to wait weeks for them to ring you.
Our GP practice is not bad. Sometimes it is easy to get appointments but sometimes it is difficult. They reply to patch inquires quickly.
There’s no phone call appointments available at mine until the 6th of January, and you have to have a phone call appointment first to decide if they can see you in person. It doesn’t matter how sick you are or how pointless a phone call appointment is for your symptoms. If you try to request in person the receptionist will slam the phone down on you. There’s no other way to book as they disabled online booking and outright refuse to let you book anything if you show up in person.
TheChimp It isn’t good at all. The time slot you book for the phone call is very approximate too - they called 3 hours early last time I did eventually get a phone appointment then said I was wasting their time when I didn’t answer... And I had to wait 89 days for the phone call from when I booked it. And it was urgent, but not something A&E would help with. Im glad to see other surgeries are performing better than mine is though. Maybe I need to switch and see if another one is better.
SaveMeSunday It's a 4-6 week wait if you want to see your normal GP with us, but if you don't mind who you see, our surgery is pretty good. You have to be on the phone dead on 8am though if you want a same day appointment.
Mine is beyond useless. They are of course all Asian and don't really help unless you are one of them. They just fob you off with pills!
Two of our GP ‘s have Retired and my GP is one of them I usually have to get my Blood checked every three months or so Due to problems keeping my iron level up, I had my Medication Review and they said don’t forget to book your Blood test, I finally got through to the surgery after trying for three days, I co get past the Receptionist even though I told her I have to get my Blood tested every three months, She said well I can’t Find anything on the system verifying that so No I won’t make you an appointment so I requested an appointment with my GP only to be told he retired
At our doctors it's a nightmare..you will be either cured or dead..by the time they get around to you
My doctors can be bad if you are phoning up for an appointment, my cousin is epileptic and was having issues with her medication and was feeling light headed and passing out a lot she was told to make an appointment with doctors to get refereed to neurologist to gets her meds sorted she was on the phone over an hour only to get through and have the lass on the other end laugh about how she had been sat at the phones all this time and never had a call come through and was then told no appointments for the next 8 week and to phone again in 2 month. My aunt then phoned the doctors as my cousin had screen shotted the phone screen to prove she had been on phone over an hour to tell them she was epileptic and not well and that this behaviour is not on. We got the girls name and put in a complaint about her. We went onto our local Facebook group and loads of people had been complaining about not being able to get through, been sat waiting over an hour to get through and told no appointments for 8+ week. The lass wasn't there long anyway.
ChelsieLou90 8 weeks seems a very long time for what sounds like what should be an urgent consultation.
I think that we're quite lucky in our area, but things are soon going to change with a new 'super surgery '
Mine is crap unless you are the same race as the Doctors. If you are not, they fob you off with pills!
A friend has been unwell and tried booking an appointment today, they told her the earliest she could get one was the 5th of January, for a telephone appointment.
I can't even get registered at my local GP surgery as I don't have photo ID, I have recently opened a new bank account and it was easier to do that than to get a doctors appointment. Apparently I need a passport and driving license (both have been stolen and I can't afford to replace them at the moment) once they have all the information to register me it takes 2 weeks to put me on the system after which I can attempt to get an appointment.
Our doctors have just reinstated the drop in clinic. You can turn up Monday to Friday between 9-6 and see someone. This is only for new ailments but so far everyone is pleased in our village with the service.
GP surgeries are paid an annual amount per year per patient. They are run like businesses and aim to retain patients who cost them the least to maximise profits. If you are an expensive patient, they are less helpful; however, there are still a few surgeries that work on the old system of actually caring about their patients. It looks like you have a good one!
Don't even get me started on this, I've had the flu bug, I have had a terrible time of it, phoned dr's because I knew I had a chest infection, when you ring now, it goes to an assesment team that considers if you are eligible for a drs appointment nearest appointment surgery was over 20 miles away
I joined my surgery in 2017, first time l needed an appointment was a month ago for a blocked ear, l called the surgery and was given an appointment for the same day ... on attending said appointment the person l saw told me they were a health clinician and not a doctor... ear drops for two weeks and then syringed. No more pain and l can hear now. Hopefully it will be another seven years before l need to see a doctor or health clinician again.
Mine is a nightmare, have to wait around 6 weeks for a face to face appointment. They offer phone consultations but cannot tell you roughly when they will call and they do not leave a message so if you miss it as you’re at work etc you have to start the whole process again.
Not great, biggest problem appears to be a lack of doctors thou, we have a long corridor of rooms , but only ever 2-3 doctors doing surgery at any one time , it's appointment only where you have to phone the week before for an appointment which is difficult if your working and don't know you're going to be ill . You can phone on the morning at 08.00am but invariably when you eventually get through there are no appointment left .
You have to make an appointment via a app for my doctors and when you phone them they tell you to use the app so you need to have a smart phone or internet access not very good especially when I have a elderly neighbour who doesn’t have internet access or a smart phone as he doesn’t know how to use them
Mine is ok for a telephone appointment. But few days for face to face. Times can be awkward, which then makes waiting longer. Also calling though you have to wait for the poxy recording before you even know if you’re in a queue.
Our go surgery is rubbish it's in a small village and they need to update the place trying to get a appointment is a joke
