Should GPs Be Paid More?

Should GPs be paid more?
With GPs voting to limit their patient numbers per day due to a pay dispute, the Health Secretary argues this move will negatively impact patients. What’s your take on the situation?
Well they earn on average £100,000 a year, more than enough, so no they do not deserve a pay rise, just greedy
Aren't most GP's Private businesses, that just receive funding from the NHS, they are free to do other work and enter into Private contracts elsewhere if they wish . In fact I know my GP does Private medicals ( £150 he wanted to charge me for a licence renewal medical , went elsewhere £65 ) and insurance medicals as a side line and is in fact an on call duty doctor for the local Police also .
Mango4 yes they are all private businesses, the GPs are self employed but still have access to the generous NHS pension scheme (they negotiated this for themselves when they left NHS donkey years ago)
They are not as hard up as they make out. In my old firm we had a GP surgery that was making yearly profits of £400k, this after paying all GPs as apart from the one who business it was ,the rest were locum already paid before the bottom line profit.
This GP was so ashamed/guilty of this fact that he wouldn’t let his finance manager see the NHS payments that he received which were paid into another bank account rather than the general business one.
Do I feel sorry for them or think they need more money- not one little bit and considering the GPs in my own surgery are absolutely rubbish - unless you walk in with a limb hanging off they’re not interested and they also ignore instructions from consultants because they obviously know better
They are already earning enough, plus they never see you unless urgent just telephone appointment. They used to have much more time to spend with you, delaying others. Times have changed mine personally need to retire had them all my life they must be beyond pension age now.
I would like to know how many patients they see in a year. It seems to be they are after money rather than thinking about patients. It takes a miracle to see my doctor. They even merged with 2 other practices and said that you would be able to see a doctor more quickly. I am on a waiting list for surgery on my right hand due to carpal tunnel syndrome. At one time you could go to the surgery and book an appointment to see the doctor the same day, they even stayed open till 6pm Monday to Friday and if you worked during the week you could get an appointment to see the doctor on a Saturday. I think they have lost sight of been a doctor. The patients should be a priority not the money.
I think GPs expect more than they are actually worth. Because they can command higher fees working privately they are a bit miffed at having to take on NHS patients. I wouldn't be suprised if the powers that be are hoping it will go this same way as dentists.
Personally I think doctors should get a reduction in wages for what they've done over the past four years.
No. I find GPs are actually doing less than a few years ago. I’m not sure if it’s just because things have changed nationally, but GPs can’t even refer you directly to where you need to go now. Most of the time our GP just sends you to A&E….
They earn plenty. Will giving them more money make them better doctors? I doubt it. Perhaps we just need more doctors? Or just replace them with AI
To be fair I have not seen a GP for over two years. Yes, I have been to the surgery but whoever I see is not a GP.
Absolutely not. I do not for a second think they dont work hard, im sure they are pushed to their limits too. However they are paid pretty heavily for that so honestly I think its just greed at this point. They also have much better working hours than say your A&E doctor on shift
