Could This New Drug Replace Dentures for Tooth Growth?

In the News

A Japanese company in 2018 trialed a new drug on Ferrets and demonstrated it's efficacy in growing new teeth. It hasn't been tested on humans yet but plans are to use it on children who cannot grow adult teeth.Beats dentures anyday but how is it ordered? What if a person grew loads of teeth or worse yet a few really big ones? I'm interested but confused.

It sounds ideal as a way to fill gaps where teeth have been lost but personally I would prefer that I wasn't the guinea pig! I would have a lot more confidence if it had been around for 50 years or so and very well tested (on other people). I won't be around that long 🥴 so I will have to put up with any gaps that I may or may not get. Image

MelissaLee1 Too many sweets for me in my youth too. I have a couple of gaps but only one that you can (only just) see. The state of dentistry in this country doesn't help either!

I was so vain about my teeth when l was younger and wanted white/porcelain fillings, my dentist being money oriented swapped all my almagam fillings, myself being naive didn't know they were porous so now over the years l have crowns galore hence my own teeth are little stumps underneath... if l could turn back time l would quote Pam Ayers poem...Oh l wished l looked after my teeth 😬. Do the new growing teeth stop growing when they reach a certain length??.

Pinkspirit I have a friend who has paid over six times for the same white filling which continues to fall out on a regular basis. He oh so usefully informed me recently that rats have only one set of teeth for life.I thought he was kidding and envisaged teeth growing around corners.I think rats may be part of the beaver family.Handy if you want to build a dam then lol.

martinlufc5637 there is something about this picture that really disturbs me lol. I would love to have perfect teeth but having cancer treatment for over 5 years takes a toll and trying to find an nhs dentist yeah right ! But I’m pleased to be alive and smile with my mouth closed lol
