kitty88uk I have strawberries and potatoes growing in my back garden. I have same problem. I'm not giving up though there's nothing better than knowing you're growing your own food

mumstheword26 yea agree with you on that! It just makes you so happy 😆 to grow your own foods after taking care of the garden 🪴 and watering the plants every now and again! 💕

kitty88uk strawberry's will always be rubbish the first year, they are usually much better years 2,3 and 4, by year 5 they will start to lack again, but during years 2, 3 and 4 you can pot on the baby plants to give yourself a never ending supply x

slightfoot for a few years there was lots of strawberries 🍓 growing and I picked them all up before they got eaten! Lol 😝 except last year they were so tiny in size compared to what we had before!

Bought some from supermarkets the other day cause they were on offer and the size is so big! Size of a peach 🍑

Yes we repotted some of the plants 🌱 cause it just kept growing all over the back garden!

We do. It's a bit late now for a lot of things but you can start with herbs and prep the area for next year. Start small and don't expect it to be amazing to begin with. Remember some times and years it all works other times it won't

My parents grow tomatoes and cucumbers but you will need a greenhouse for that. They grow strawberries too. Cover the strawberries with a mesh type wire or similar to stop animals getting in. Also mum puts down cheap beer to kill the slugs.

Spuds in old containers..aka dustbins if you like! Garlic in with the roses..companion planting.Spring onions and radishes are easy as well.A herb garden is nice..rosemary,mint,chives etc. Flowers you can put in salads.Dandelions make great honey as well!

Give anything a go if you can and if you don't have the room use pots or grow bags. I have strawberries, tomatoes, herbs, peppers, chillis, lettuce, i've put random tomato plants around the garden too.

These loose lettuce leaves are quick and easy . I’m growing some now, just put outside but done previously and you’ll get lots, plus they keep growing. Ideal for this time of year.

Good luck happy growing..

LL81 anybody like runner beans? They are easy to grow, lovely just boiled on their own with a bit of salt and pepper to taste.

kennethianmorgn some runner beans I don't mind I prefer the smaller ones than the big fat ones. Some people put butter on them and season them.

It all depends on space, but cut and come again lettuce and quick growing herbs ban be a great place to start, practically anything can be used to grow in, old plastic bottles ect,if Ur budgets tight for seeds then just save Ur own,for example pop a slice of tomato in some soil and u should get a few tom plants, same with anything with seeds in, if pests are giving u issues look up companion planting,

I've been growing my own for 20 years and have a allotment for 10, over the years I have accumulated more gardening books than I like to think about, but hands down the best book and really the only book I ever use is this one, it's excellent for beginners as it's got a really easy lay out to follow and understandable instructions, would highly recommend getting a copy, it's the book that first got me started growing Image
