Useful hacks to avoid damage to your car when cleaning

Other

In this article a mechanic is warning people not to use a car sponge when washing their cars

Why, because they can cause fine scratches on the bodywork

He advised using woolen mitts instead

Another person advises not to clean your car while wearing keys , either clipped to your belt or elsewhere

These can also scratch your car as you lean over the bodywork

The same goes for rings or other jewellery

Not using rotating brush car washes i already knew about, these can also damage the car

The final tip is not to use washing up liquid instead of car shampoo to wash your vehicle

It contains salt and other chemicals that will strip any wax or paint sealant from surfaces on your car

I never wash my car with water, i use a waterless spray that doesn't leave water marks , which you get in hard water areas

It also leaves the bodywork gleaming

To some the car is their pride and joy , so i hope these tips help

Our cars only get washed when absolutely necessary and even them I take it to the local hand wash car wash.

MrsCraig At least its a hand wash M, much less damage than at a car wash with the rotating machinery , and they are expensive now , i much prefer my own method of using a waterless spray , you get a fantastic aftershine without the need for wax polish , and you save on water

Our Chrysler, affectionately known as Herbie is rather old and has more scratches than I have wrinkles. So long as it's clean for special occassions I don't mind what is used. Personally I think the dirty might be holding him together lol
