What Happened to the True Meaning of Christmas

what happened to all the beautiful nativity scenes we use to get on Christmas cards now we just get happy holidays which is very dull
Don't get me started, already had a rant on here. We are meant to be a Christian country but are not allowed to openly follow our own faith without others being offended. And yet we bend over backwards to accommodate faiths of others.
Well I am Christian and can tell you that the trend around is cards with puppies or other sorts regarding faith,so I guess stick with what you like and what you believe
I'm a christian believer and have my views on what christmas is about but not judging others on their beliefs or want to stick my religion onto anyone I believe each to their own
This thread seems very appropriate to my circumstances at the moment. I am re-purposing what was a handmade Nativity Stable into Santa's Grotto. Because we, as a nation, try to respect all faiths our own loses a little bit more of it's identity each year.
I have just bought a beautiful gold coloured ornament with the letters PEACE in relief. In front of the letters there is the nativity scene in little ornaments. I will proudly have this on display as it represents Christmas and it's meaning. It is first and foremost a Christian festival and I will celebrate it as such.
I have no problem at all with other religions celebrating their own festivals and beliefs as long as I can be true to mine without prejudice, especially in my own country. I wish I knew how to do a picture, I will give it a go later!
Wow, it worked. Aren't I the clever one lol! No excuse for not posting pics now, there will be no stopping me!
Once again Lynibis you have put my feelings into words, lol. I love the ornament, it's beautiful. I always put a traditional nativity scene in my window, we bought it in Holland years ago. I'm not overly religious but Christmas and Easter are Christian festivals and I really feel that should be at the heart of the celebrations.
Exactly Lynibis it's the same with the advent calenders. As a child we had traditional advent calenders where you opened a double door on the 24th to a beautiful scene of the nativity not a bigger bit of chocolate. At Easter when my children were younger they used to get roughly 9 Easter eggs each! One year I decided instead of getting them an egg they were each getting an age appropriate Bible. They were happy but other people thought it was really wrong of me (poor little souls only had 8 eggs each!!!). It's all very sad.
I think Christmas is too commercialised now and despair that parents rack up debt buying their children the latest gadgets. I don’t miss the nativity cards and tend to buy ones that I would like to receive, I absolutely hate cheap envelopes!
If you want to liven up your Nativity at home you could always adopt the Catalonia tradition of adding a Caganer in the background - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12059969 This may not be for everyone.
