Help to Sleep like a Normal Person!!

I have CFS so i average about 1 or 2 hrs a night have tried most things, and very little helps preferably no medication recommendations unless that are really good Thanks all
I've never been a great sleeper, always got too much going around my head and night time is the only quiet time I have to process it all doesn't help lol soooooo looks like I have no good advice whatsoever lol sorry bout that xx
Well you have asked but I fear anything I offer will be stuff you have already tried or done, and I am afraid I do not know what the acronym stands for.....something to do with cystic fibrosis?
I trust you already know not to drink coffee after midday as the caffeine stays in your system for up to 12hours.
Probably not practical every night but a warm bath with lavender oil or similar as lavender is a relaxant known to aid sleep. Can also put lavender sachets inside pillow case.
Lots of water as dehydration can cause all manner of problems.
You may not like this one but it is guaranteed to concentrate the mind but send you off to sleep at same time.....READ A GOOD BOOK!
Failing that a classical music station playing very quietly.
Oh and total darkness, and not too much to eat before sleeping, definitely no alcohol. Too much sends you to sleep but you quickly wake and cannot get back to sleep.
Bananas to boost melatonin levels no led screens for 2-3 hours before bed and maybe instead of counting sheep u could count the amazon boxes coming tomorrow

I hardly manage more than 2-3 hours unbroken sleep every night. After about 3-4 weeks of this i usually have a mega sleep of around 12 hrs in one night and the cycle starts again ! Last night i slept for 12 hours today I feel refreshed and alive but just know that tonight it’s going to be back to the 2-3 hours sleep again
Try not to think that way nipperjwb, otherwise it will be a self fulfilling prophecy. Keep busy and only go to bed when you feel really tired.
Bananas are energy boosters so not sure how that works but you have nothing to lose.
Have you tried meditation or white noise apps? Even a dehumidifier would help on the white noise front plus it reduces positive ions in the air (which is a good thing) and helps the mind relax. I swear by himalayan salt lamps too, again they reduce positive ions and they are very good for relaxation, there's been some amazing studies with them on autistic children and has helped with their sleeping patterns. Have you tried CBD oil? Again has had some brilliant studies and relaxes body and mind, you can get bath bombs, biscuits and drinks with it in these days. I haven't tried it personally but know so many who swear by it. CFS unfortunately puts you in a vicious cycle with sleep, the more you have (rare I know) the more your body tells you it's exhausted and fatigued. A childhood friend has had it for 30 years now and finds that purposely not trying to sleep or even going to bed for one night a week, regulates her sleep pattern. Good luck
Ty, yes i have salt lamps, a dehumidifier, a sleep machine, CBD oil, bath oils and ointment, the ointment is really good for the pain i have FMs too and the smell is very relaxing so thats helping with anxiety too and i go to the homeopathic hospital for Acupuncture and Bowen Therapy both really help with pain and relaxation. Ive been same for the past 28 years so always open to trying new things but it is a vicious circle i can be awake 30-40 hrs at a time then sleep for 2-3 hrs then start all over again the only way i sleep more (4-5) is with sleep tablets but i absolutely hate taking them as they leave me feeling foggy and more tired the next day and that doesnt wear off for at least 12 plus hrs but i try take one every 2nd week just to shut my body down for a little while lol..... Bananas are good for raising the melatonin levels in your blood stream my daughters doctor told me that anyway x
I swear by my salt lamps, even calms my demolition cats down. I've got fibro (amongst other things) so can empathise. I found a lady that does CBD bath bombs and although I haven't tried it yet the reviews are brilliant
Ive tried the anxiety, sleep and aches and pains bath bombs the anxiety one i found was the best, and the sleep one was really relaxing, i had some pain relief from the aches and pains one but it didnt last long
I’m a dreadful sleeper too, I emphasise with you. I don’t like taking sleeping tablets but do take a couple of painkillers then try to sleep a couple of hours. I always dab a drop of lavender oil just under my nose before attempting to sleep. I’m not sure it helps but it does smell lovely and lavender is a natural relaxant. I tried bananas, you’re supposed to eat two, I don’t like them so gave up on that idea.
Having a comfortable soft mattress and Pillow helps you sleep better and not eating at least 3 hours before going to bed helps a lot.
- Keep a consistent sleep schedule. Get up at the same time every day, even on weekends or during vacations.
- Set a bedtime that is early enough for you to get at least 7 hours of sleep.
- Don’t go to bed unless you are sleepy.
- If you don’t fall asleep after 20 minutes, get out of bed.
- Establish a relaxing bedtime routine.
- Use your bed only for sleep and sex.
- Make your bedroom quiet and relaxing. Keep the room at a comfortable, cool temperature.
- Limit exposure to bright light in the evenings.
- Turn off electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime.
- Don’t eat a large meal before bedtime. If you are hungry at night, eat a light, healthy snack.
- Exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet.
- Avoid consuming caffeine in the late afternoon or evening.
- Avoid consuming alcohol before bedtime.
- Reduce your fluid intake before bedtime.

Exercise can help....when the psychical body passes out because of tiredness.
There is a nice herbal Pukka tea for sleeping and also Lavender is really good in the bath, relaxes. There are room sprays too...
Ty I have lavender bath oil and room spray and candles lol i will have a look at the Pukka tea they are a good brand ty
Well, you'd have to define a "normal person".
But anyway, have a good mattress, no annoying noises and then fall asleep whether by watching a show/movie or music.
Yeah i dont fit under the "normal" category at all pmsllllllll ive found some relaxation music which is quite good so im persevering lol Ty
I have started using Headspace as a means of relaxation and to help me sleep. Too many toughts buzzing round my head...
There are lots of free sessions that you can try first. If you like it you can subscribe for a small fee. Alternatively, you can try YouTube for lots of free meditations.
Sometimes it helps, sometimes not so much, but I have suffered with poor sleep for years and I thought it would be worth a try.
Ty for the advice, ill certainly have a look i go to a homeopathic clinic now too and they use alot of these things so ill definitely look into it ty
