Money Saving

While it’s sad to lose yet another useful store and people having to lose their jobs at the worst time of year, is anyone thinking of summer bargains if they are having to sell off stock? I know it’s Christmas at the moment and summer is a long way off. Out of season is usually cheaper if still available. I don’t think any of our local stores are going to be saved unfortunately.

I got a really good deal on really useful boxes at homebase earlier this year but I had to collect them from the store in Blandford Forum but often use these trips as an excuse to go somewhere different. Same with ebay auction wins in the countryside and then collect them on route to somewhere to go shopping or look around. I don't see many homebase stores in my local area anymore. Apart from Blandford Forum I don't know where the next nearest store is to me. The Blandford Forum store was quite run down when I collected my boxes, it looked tired and struggling to exist. The staff were efficient and friendly but overall it looked on borrowed time.

We only ever had one homebase in our area and it didn't last long, too expensive, there is more and more smaller DIY shops opening all over at really good prices, i went to B&Q recently, didn't buy what I needed, way too expensive

martinlufc5637 We have 'Proper Job' shops here in the south west and they are great value, they are all around Yeovil to the north and our nearest now is Somerton which is 9 miles away it would be great if we had one in Yeovil but they need a low rent building and rents seem higher in Yeovil which is why so many shops are empty. I'm surprised so many shops remain empty you would think that would cost landlords money and they would be motivated to lower their rent. I'm not going to buy something for £10 in B&Q if it is £5 in Proper Job, I'll just wait until I've got access to a Proper Job store. Proper Job is cheaper than Screwfix and Toolstation for a lot of items too.

To mt knowledge I don’t even remember there being a Homebase store local to my only ever a B&Q. As above says though some of them are just too expensive

Been going down hill for a good few years and that Australian takeover a few years back was shambolic and did even further damage to it . All the stores near me closed a while ago, in fact I only know of one left in Wales and that's Bridgend. The way Morrisons ans Asda are going they won't be far behind them either.

The one near me has been closing for a while but there wasn’t many great deals to be had. It is a shame for the staff losing their jobs

Yes our local Homebase is due to close, I can remember when it was Texas to start and then taken over by Bunnings and back to Homebase, shame to see it go but rumoured it may be taken over by The Range.

That's a shame. Only don't use homebase because I don't have any near me.
