Household Energy Price per Year, What's Everyone's Average?

Ask a Question

Now fixed prices are back, I've started looking into changing tariff, but upon asking current supplier for annual.consumptions, my electric seems incredibly high. I have 3 bed house, with 3 over 18year olds and a child...but my annual consumption is 5654. For electric- online national average (according to google) is in the 3 thousands. I am incredibly careful with usage. All sockets including cooker/microwave are switched off at wall whej not in use, lights switched off when not in room etc. TV barely used. All that stays on permanent is fridge/freezer, 5 amazon echos, router... even viegin box is switched off as barely used.

Does this sound right? Concerned something up with my smart metre or house wiring

No it doesn't sound right for the size of your house.

Might be worth checking that your actual smart meter readings have been input correctly at your provider’s end.

Mine weren’t, the new supplier had omitted the first two zeros in the initial reading and that had a knock on effect that produced the erroneously high bill. It was corrected after I complained bitterly that I couldn’t possibly have used that much electricity in just 6 months and showed them evidence of low usage from my previous supplier.

Good luck.

Seems quite high, but you don't mention if you also have Gas central heating and Hot water, if not and you are totally reliant on Electric , it's not overly excessive. Regarding fixes I have also looked at them but didn't see anything that great on offer at the moment , very small savings to be had and with the predication of the price cap dropping in October not worth fixing at the moment in my opinion.

Mango4 - yes I have gas central heating (no emertion tank).

Thanks for comment about fixed prices, maybe I'll wait until after October.

So the £5654 is electric only? How much for gas? I’ve changed every lamp to LED which helped to reduce our consumption also I’ve cut down the number of washing machine loads.

TheChimp I misread that. I immediately thought that seems too high for a family sized home.

Pjran Yep, at around £500 a month, I would think so unless there's a problem with the energy company.

We're paying around £80 a month atm, but we have oil heating.

It depends really. Do you have a dishwasher that you use everyday or a tumble dryer? Are there games consoles that get used a lot? Also depends how energy efficient your appliances are. I honestly couldn't tell you what our annual usage was. I keep an eye on the amount used a month via the app to make sure it is working properly and I check the amount money wise on the bill but I don't check the individual usage.
