Hundreds of Sheep Crossing London Bridge
In the News
Hundreds of unusually woolly pedestrians will be hoofing it across London Bridge this Sunday. They are part of the annual Sheep Drive and Livery Fair, organised by London’s oldest livery company (a professional fellowship representing a particular trade).
The event goes back to the Medieval era, when farmers used to drive their livestock from the countryside into London and sell them at market. When motorised vehicles became the norm in the twentieth century, the market-day tradition died out. In 2013 the Worshipful Company of Woolmen decided to revive the tradition and have continued the event annually ever since. A flock of sheep will be shepherded across London Bridge.
telmel I love sheep they're so..er sheepy lol. It's a rural thing. Here's Spanish shepherds preventing too much urban uptake. Farmers have might innit?
MelissaLee1963 I think they are protesting over yesterdays budget , but i don't think they want to be 'minted' like the elite
They want their share of the cut as meat prices are going up also wanting a cut from the clothing people make from their cotton
Exercising their long given rights (the herders that is ) ! (Freedom of the city and all that !) - No surprise to see the other half of the telmelissalee multis replying to their own posts within seconds -as usual . Perhaps make your dual membership less obvious ?
