The Incredible Scale of Saudi Arabia's £800 Billion Building Project 'The Line'
In the News
The cost of this project is staggering , i think only Saudi could afford something like this with plenty spare from oil profits
Its virtually a massive mirrored skyscraper lying on its side
At 75 miles long, other articles quote 105 miles, the super city project is due to be completed by 2030 , imagine the UK trying to build something like this ?
You only have to look at the HS2 project , a massive cost inflated failure
This mega city will house 9 million people and they will have everything there so they never have to leave if they dont want to
They are even planning to install a small artificial moon !!

telmel Mr Musk is top of Forbes list and is worth ..wait for it..251 Billion. The richest Sheik is worth about 8 Billion so lagging behind somewhat.I'm down to my last million.
MelissaLee1 The problem is he spends a lot of his fortune on space travel M, it all goes up in smoke
Some of the other projects associated with The Line are aesthetically pleasing. Although, I can't see myself visiting due to well documented human rights issues in the country. There is also concerns about the impact on the environment and the risk to wildlife. For example, it will block the way for migrating animals and the long reflective surface will likely lead to a large number of birds dying from collisions. Birds will have problems differentiating between the structure and the surrounding area - metro.co.uk/2022/07/29/saudi-arabias-vertical-megacity-would-be-an-ecological-disaster-17079108/
Well Dubai was basically built on slave labour when they took people's passports and forced them to work for food and shelter only and wouldn't surprise me if this is similar. This project wouldn't be possible in Europe or the US for the same costs.
BonzoBanana That would explain a lot B, and i also remember they have a poor record for health and safety and i can see many injured and worse while this is under construction
telmel I've seen Saudi Arabian welfare standards explained and they are very good for their countrymen but migrant workers not so great sadly. Saudi Arabians not only look down on non Muslim people but often the wrong type of Muslims too. You cannot become a Saudi Arabian citizen without being the correct Muslim religion and there is no separation between state and religion. Ultimately there is acceptance of being unfair to migrant workers who aren't the right religion. There is more slavery today than at any other time of history when it comes to the number of slaves (rather than the percentage of the population) and this is pretty much all in Africa and Asia. I'm sure it will be an amazing place to visit as long as you don't think about the abuse and suffering and likely deaths of migrant workers forced to build it.
From what i read they do a lot of these building projects that aren’t actually going to happen
Saudi Arabia is also planning to build a 2 kilometre-high skyscraper in Riyadh. Which would be over twice the height of the current tallest building in the world, the 828 metre high Burj Khalifa - www.dezeen.com/2024/03/04/two-kilometre-high-skyscraper-world-tallest-saudi-arabia-foster-partners/
Is there going to be enough demand for all of these building projects. Presumably, they will be aimed towards corporations and wealthy individuals. Will there just be a large amount of empty office space. How many residential properties will be unsold or only purchased for investment purposes and left empty most or all of the time.
