Inquiry about "Sealed" Houses
Ask a Question
I've seen some houses all locked up with metal fences and metal doors, but what exactly is that about?
Is it to not let home invaders / trespassers (more polite term... Squatters) live in them or the bank owns it and decided to sealed them up?
I found one article that such a house was locked up due to a crime being committed on April 28, 2023:

It's so squatting doesn't acure and it stops vandalism ect.. some people would go in and strip and the copper piping out, you'd normally find them on council housing, if a serious crime like murder for example, they will do this, to contain any evidence
PhilipMarc it would depend on who owns it, if its local council, a few months, if private it could be a bank repossession, so would depend when it's sold by the bank, if a crime anything upto 6 to 12 months
I've seen a few around my way, one was like a community homeless shelter or low cost accomodation or something and now sealed and the other I think was where a drug dealer lived in single private residence.
BonzoBanana Yikes, that looks creepy.
It can be seen it has electricity running and a CCTV camera so they definitely don't want anyone to get in. However, I noticed the roof windows are just glass so if someone decided to get up there and then go in that way, it'd be possible.
Not to give urbex explorers ideas, but that's one way.
BonzoBanana it's got potential to be lovely. Shame the shelter shut down bet it was well used. Guessing money was the reason it shut down
Jerseydrew Yes it feels like they don't have the money to invest in it. Like many councils ours have spent recklessly and have built up huge debts. They invested in retail property like the retail unit Wilko was in and of course it is now empty costing money rather than generating money. This building looks to be a potential 10 or more homes with 3 terraced houses and perhaps 7 flats. However I know things are often more complicated than they seem and there could be other factors at play but it does seems a waste. It does seem to have working doors though in two places and you wonder what is happening with it.
I always wonder about these as well, there’s a few ive seen in my town that have been like it for a very long time which seems like a waste given there’s people with nowhere to live
jms19 I agree, but if they become hubs for junkies it gets even worse. No one likes living around that.
The government should take care of the homeless people.
I've always taken it as to stop squatters getting in. I get it from the owners point of view but do feel for homeless people looking for somewhere safe to live
