The Internet

Could you survive without the internet for 1 week?
What would you do in the meantime?
Sure. I've been without it and it felt good, but at the same time there was free stuff I missed.
I don't watch live TV so wouldn't mind having limited internet (emails, banking, etc) at the very least.
I haven't used a landline for about 2 years and object to paying for it included in my internet charge.
lynnibis With most ISPs (Internet service providers) there has to be a live telephone line to provide a service - which is why you have to pay (line rental). Some ISPs don't make it too clear that you don't have to pay for a call package unless you want to. I personally don't pay for the call package using my mobile for outgoing calls - landline for incoming or free call numbers. This is saving me £120 a year (£10 a month).
It's worth checking out if this could save you money. Should mention that many low users can be better off using PAYG at one penny a minute (using above method) than paying for call packages or SIM only deals for mobile.
davidstockport thanks for that David, I didn't realise the telephone line was part and parcel of the internet input.
lynnibis You're welcome - It's easily forgotten that for most people their home internet connection is dependent on a phone line. I think (I'll stand correction) that Virgin are one of only a few who can provide a permanent internet connection without a telephone line. There might be others via satellite etc in remote areas etc.
Complicated innit
Lost Internet for 4 days earlier in the year during heavy snow so was stuck at home and I confess I was totally lost and quite isolated without it. I am so reliant on it for work and at home I use for research, Emails, calendar even cooking recipes. Did enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles though and had some lovely walks on the moors.
I almost have this past week gone after my puter started smoking last week. Have internet access on my phone but I'm kinda old school, I like a keyboard and a mouse! More's got done round the house, that's for sure!
"Mouse and keyboard" - music to my ears! - I thought I was the only one who doesn't like those new fangled contraptions that try to imply they're smarter than me.
I did for over 60 years, and apart from things that the internet is almost essential for could no doubt manage without it again.
I'd miss it though and would during the week without it be seeking out ways to replace it... I might even try getting a life!
