Internet down
In the News
Was anyone affected by the Internet being down today? As I have little to no Internet access at work because we are in a valley and have a reservoir literally next to us. (You can see the dam going up the stairs to the first floor. ), we didn't notice it.

Thankfully wasn’t due to fly or travel on trains today, however put off shopping as all systems down. Lots of places cash only.
Quite a few systems affected in the hospital I work. Think it caused inconvenience more than major disruption though but it wouldn't have been easy for staff who needed the affected systems. My only issues was that I couldnt book any leave - but it can wait till next week anyway.
It is worrying that one outage can cause so many issues all around the world though
didbygraham it's mad isn't it we rely on it so much and when it goes wrong how much of life it can affect and cause a lot of things to stand still
My son was travelling back from Turkey yesterday but haven't spoken to him yet. The other son travelled to Turkey on Thursday so am hoping he beat the outage.
I noticed one news report that stated Japan was quite effected but South Korea was not and that it was related which companies used Microsoft devices. Some companies use Linux more for their internet infrastructure which is open source but with better security features. In some areas Linux dominates like servers and in others Windows is more often used. Really we need to move away from Windows, it's slow, has poor security and nowadays they are constantly trying to obtain and sell your data. Computers running Linux can be much older and this is much better for the environment and economies outside of Asia who won't import as much computer equipment.
BonzoBanana interesting I don't know Linux other then it's meant to be hard to use
Jerseydrew It's getting easier but really its a completely different operating system so if you are new to it you have a steep learning curve but it's not too bad. I'm not an expert myself on Linux but have used it a bit. I'm planning to install steam os on a computer soon to see how that runs which is a linux operating system designed to run PC games which normally would require windows.
I was not person affected apart from the Ladbrokes site was down and missed my free spin. My dad was so pleased he got through to his doctors only to inform him they couldn’t do anything for him yesterday.
We never had any issues personally. I know a lot of the shops near us had issues with card payments though.
I went to pick up two Evri orders at Tesco and the lady told me the system is still down. I'll try tomorrow.
Jerseydrew A woman who went to collect her item was really upset because she's going on vacation so it'll be sent back. She can just ask the seller to keep it reserved for her.
The CrowdStrike outage is still doing damage. I tried collecting my Evri parcels and it's still down.
It better be fixed by tomorrow or the day after 'cause after several days of not being collected they'll be sent back.
Thank goodness InPost wasn't affected (this has a max of like 3 days to collect).
