I have never been called up for jury service but my husband has. I have heard you can get some very interesting cases but also some very boring ones.

I got called for Jury service last year. I never got selected for a case and sat there ages. Whilst waiting some of us would read books, have a chat with each other. Some even bought bingo strips and dabbers, so some of them would play bingo. If some could do work on laptops or phones they would whilst they could.

Been called twice - first time I spent three days sitting around and then got discharged as not needed. Very boring. Actually spent most of my birthday there that year. The second time was just after the court reopened after after the covid shut down. They were still working out how to keep things safe for us with screens etc and a larger room so we could sit further apart etc. The case itself ran for three weeks and was very interesting but also quite distressing. Very eye opening. Glad I experienced it but it was quite harrowing at times. The courts staff looked after us very well as long as we stayed where they told us to and did what they asked.

I got called up once and the case lasted four days. You get paid for your traveling, your parking, your lunch and for your time off work. It would of lasted longer If some of us disagreed with the case. It was OK but I never want to do It again. I did It over 25 years ago. Things might be different now, who knows.

I did jury service once. It was different though as it was a coroner’s court case. We got looked after well, the staff were lovely. But oh I wish I could tell you the details!

The case was incredibly interesting and shocking. The problem i found was that about 3pm - when most people’s bodies fall into a natural lull i struggled to stay awake. It didn’t help that the coroner had the most calming beautiful voice. Luckily I had made friends with a lady on the jury and if she saw my head start to relax she would nudge me !

I haven't been called up but my parents have been. Dad was excused because of his age but mum has done it. She said it was interesting and horrible at the same time because of the type of case it was. Think it lasted 2 weeks.

It is something i would love to do but have never been called. I don't understand why some are called twice and others not at all.

I did get called up for jury service a few years ago, but I was caring for my mum, so I didn't have to go.
