Killer Allowed to Try Claim Damages against Police for Not Stopping Him Earlier

I think nothing surprises me anymore. The world has gone mad.

Apart from the fact that the perpetrator claiming damages is insane in itself, surely if someone is a schizophrenic then they will always be a schizophrenic?

There isn't currently a cure for schizophrenia. Some people find many of their symptoms get better with treatment, while others find that they stop for long periods or never come back. For other people schizophrenia is something they learn to live with long-term.

So what recourse do the public have - can they demand that someone with schizophrenia be locked up interminably so that they are prevented from committing crimes and potentially killing people and if so how does this impact on people with mental health problems, will they come forward for help?

This is bad on so many levels.

Not a surprise. Though he should be told to jog on. People are getting good at not accepting blame for their actions and always find someone else to blame. See it at work daily. It's infuriating as their kids are learning nothings their fault as they see their parents blaming everyone else but themselves or their kids

We are going to get a lot more stories of failing NHS or the Police in the future as resources get tighter and debt repayments use up a larger percentage of tax yields. The idea that this means someone like this can claim against such a service because of such failures is just ridiculous. For the crimes he has commited he should have a £50 million debt on his head so if any money or assets comes his way for whatever reason they are instantly taken from him. Personally I don't think he should even be alive but if he has to be it should be in extreme poverty with a very simple and boring existence.

Just taking someone to court doesnt mean much. Lawyers will often do it to make money from client or rip the public purse. Its one of the reasons lawyers are so depised.

Normally when someone wins money from a frivolous claim its becasue either something was not done by the book or its just cheaper to pay than contest. Hopefully this goes nowhere and the public dont end up funding some nice holidays for the lawyers.

I think in this case some lawyer will have told them they may be able to get a pay out or some other benefit from this.

It’s completely shameless though, imagine taking 3 people out of this world and then trying to gain money after the fact. Have some respect for the victims and their families.

That is totally unbelievable. The British Justice system must have lost the plot. The only ones that should and deserve compensation, are the victims family. Not that it would bring their loved 1 back, but acknowledement of the pain, suffering and loss they will always suffer. Seems there's ironic justice in this world.

I hope the judge kicks it out otherwise it’s going to make everyone criminal in the same situation do the same thing, if they do receive damages the world’s gone mad - the victim family are the ones, if there is any money, who should be getting it

Our justice system needs a complete overhaul if this ever gets to court. Maybe the prison should throw away the key to his cell.
