Did You Know a Car Dashcam Could Invalidate Your Insurance Car Insurance ?
In the News
I dont have a dashcam fitted in my car but i was thinking about it
But did you know having your dashcam hard wired to your battery could invalidate your insurance ?
Apparently this is classed as a modification, and if you dont inform your insurance and have an accident you could find yourself out of pocket
Just plugging it into your cigarette lighter is acceptable though and you dont need to tell them about this
The only problem is the dashcam stops working once the ignition is off, whereas hard wiring keeps it running when stationary
So you are prone to car theft when the dashcam isnt recording if not hard wired

PhilipMarc Its more the car itself being stolen P , it would not be worth stealing the dashcam with all the wiring to take out too
I knew this. Any modifications that you make to your car need to be reported to your insurance provider. Husband was going to get the radio changed in his car and he had go tell the car insurance. Didn't change it in the end but even putting snow tyres on your car in winter and not telling them can invalidate it.
I don't leave my dashcam in , I always take it out when parked, not worth someone breaking in and nicking it
