Did You Know the Retirement Age in China is 50 for Women and 60 for Men?

Ask a Question

I was reading this article about the state pension in China and was amazed at how young people retire there , at the moment it's 50 for women and 60 for men

They are increasing the retirement age now though starting in january , it was last set in the 1950's , to 58 and 63 respectively, but the increase will be phased in over 15 years , and dependant on your job title , so it does vary slightly , they have more pressure on the pension fund as other countries are finding also with people living longer

Saying that, the average pension is around £350.00 per month, but if you own your own home or live with family you can survive on that quite comfortably

There have been fewer births in China also , so more younger people are footing the bill for pensions than before, hence the age hike

Wow you can live for up to 59 years retired in China. That's amazing at 50 you're still young enough to do things.

I would imagine 350 pounds a month goes a long way in China. Their currency value is supressed so that their exports are cheaper so a direct conversion to pounds would not be the whole truth. A factory door price of a bicycle made in China can be as low as 20 dollars but I doubt we could make a bicycle here for a factory door price of 200 pounds. The main bicycle that the UK manufactures now is the Brompton and that starts at about 800 pounds retail I think. I saw a beautiful Rolex clone watch in a Chinese market on a youtube video and it looked genuine and was about 10 dollars but the US buyer haggled down to six dollars which the seller reluctantly accepted. Try to make a fake Rolex here and it would probably cost more than the original. Ok not really but you get my point the UK is very uncompetitive.

I could be wrong about China but I bet they are worked into the ground and don't live as long so I guess it's all relative. Over here you could only retire at 50 if your mortgage is paid and you had a really highly paid job that allowed you to do so. Most of us couldn't live for a further 30 or 40 years on our pension.

Here you just work til you drop and/or you retire through ill health in which case you are not well enough to enjoy old age. It's sad.No time for family, friends and loved ones of just enjoying life. And so the old adage..all work and no play make Jack a dull boy! Image

Most Chinese elders live with their families so their children have babysitters on hand. Plus they are cared for by their children when the time comes.

I think because we are all getting ripped off In the UK with everything going up & getting paid peanuts, we have no choice but to work to survive.

Emerge11 People here don't shout and scream enough E, they just roll over and accept everything they are told to do

You just have to look how other countries react to things, they take to the streets protesting more

telmel I’m not sure some businesses can afford huge pay rises.

Pjran Its not all about pay rises P, it can be pensions or workers rights with health and safety etc , it would not be so bad if everything wasn't going up in price , what can people do but to ask for a wage increase to match , otherwise poverty gets worse

Maybe some smaller companies cannot afford it , but the bigger ones can if they stop paying so much to the shareholders

telmel Health & Safety does not happen where I work. I see It everyday. It only happens when an accident occurs & when It suits them. A few months ago I met the new boss as he came to ask me Is everything alright. I said NO, everything Is not alright. I am doing two peoples jobs here. I then told him that there was a yellow parking stripe zone In the employee car park on the floor & you got an electric maintenance van on It. He loved me. No van parked the next day. Yes the big supermarkets can afford It. They are the ones who Is overcharging us when we shop & not the manufactures. They set the prices. This country does not stick together no matter what the problem Is.
