The Latest in Car Crime from 'Vehicle Vultures'

In the News

It's bad enough having your car stolen , or someone nicking your Catalytic Converter for the valuable metals, now there is another crime group to add to the list , 'vehicle vultures'

There is such a shortage of car parts in the uk that thieves are stripping them from parked cars now , leaving extensive damage to them

The insurance companies have to write off the car in some cases and the owners are seeing their policies triple

The person in the article is now also is paying for private parking, costing him thousands extra with this and his increased premiums

Omg that's scary. Not a surprise to be honest. I kind of expect this sort of things but not ok

Jerseydrew I think you just need to be careful where you park up overnight J, at least as close to home that you can , make sure you have a car alarm and even a camera trained on the vehicle from your house if possible

It sounds like a friendless soul with no friends willing to let him leave their car on their forecourt or in their garage until it's fixed rather than paying for private parking. The insurance company are the real vultures in this story. The little so-and-so's thieving car parts are a symptom of today's society. Growing up knowing there are very few prison spaces, it's unlikely they will be convicted on a first offence, and they would get a better education in criminal activity and contacts if they were convicted than they would do by their gang members at home.

EmmaWright762 I agree E, they are scroats, i hope someone catches them doing it to their vehicle and gives them a good hiding , its all they will understand

The problem is, some car parts are so expensive, that it's a good earner for thiefs, and the fact there is zero police around makes it easy for them

martinlufc5637 Yes that's the problem M , its all too easy , as i mentioned before a good alarm is the only thing i can think of to help deter them, some go off if you just touch the car never mind start stripping it

Do you remember KIT from nightrider, I think they should make harsher version so he could tell them exactly where to go LOL

Normally this sort of crime is more related to unreliable mid-price cars where there is a decent margin on parts. Many German cars, rep mobiles etc are very unreliable with expensive parts and that is the type of vehicle they normally go after as they need a steady stream of replacement parts. Same issue with Landrovers and Italian cars. Yes some cheaper cars do have some valuable parts but the real money is in more valuable unreliable cars. My car is over 10 years old and bought new and I've only ever replaced sundry items like oil filters, windscreen washer blades etc. It's got simple dials, no turbo, no automatic transmission, its a very simple car although does have some luxuries like a decent sound system and air conditioning. It's been much abused too. Nowadays cars have some much high value stuff in them that it makes sense to steal parts but pretty much all the parts on my car are low value. I replaced a couple of tyres recently and I think they were £40 each or close to it. A BMW SUV can be £2k for a full set of tyres. If I was a thief I know which wheels I would steal.

Don't keep it too long B, if it becomes a classic the thieves will definitely be sniffing around then 😉

Mines an older model too, but well looked after , but as with you i doubt they will be bothering with mine
