What if Latest Deals Sold Discount Gift cards... Would You Get One?

Hey Deal Hunters!
Discounted gift cards, or cashback when buying gift cards, has been a community feature requested a few times in the past.
We're exploring this idea more:
- You could buy a gift card for Amazon, Argos, ASDA etc. and receive a small % back as instant cashback.
For example:
- Amazon 1.25%
- Argos 5%
- ASDA 3%
The idea being that when you hit a certain threshold of cashback, £10, for instance, you can either withdraw it to your bank or use it towards another gift card.
The gift cards could be used to achieve extra savings on deals. They could be used together with voucher codes. And, they could also be stacked on top of other cashback offers.
Would you use this?
We'd like to know if this would be of interest to the Latest Deals community. It'd be a sizeable investment in time (and money!) to build. So any and all feedback would be appreciated.
- What shop would you buy a gift card for?
- Would you use it for your weekly supermarket shop?
- What would put you off using it?
Please assume it's all instant, digital gift cards delivered to your phone. You scan them in the shop or type the code in online.

For example, I would use it on my weekly shop at ASDA online. If it was 5% or something, that'd be a nice extra saving. I buy the gift card in advance, do my shopping, and get the instant cashback.
I like that I could combine it with any voucher codes, a cashback debit card, and even other cashback offers online.
I know another app does this and it's pretty popular with people on here. I guess as long as you can match or offer better deals than them then people would use it. Personally for me I have downloaded the other app but not used it yet as I don't spend a lot overall anyway.
I would use it though, especially if i was making a purchase that was a large amount.
jms19 Thank you. Yes, there are some other apps available which I imagine have been the inspiration for the members requesting the feature.
From initial research I believe we could offer similar rates.
The benefit perhaps of Latest Deals is that we can showcase the cashback right next to the coupons and voucher codes available, as well as the top deals at the retailer. So you can combine all the savings together.
I think this makes sense. I would certainly buy giftcards if I was getting cashback when I am going to be spending at the destination retailer anyway.
It would then come down to the percentage cashback and the ease of the process of accessing and using the giftcards that would decide whether I went through the trouble of going through the process.
Not enough or a cumbersome procedure and I would probably not bother. Much like cashback sites llike Topcashback/Quidco for retailers with a poor record of coming through or not giving enough cashback percentage.
PaxAmerica Thank you for your feedback. Yes, the problem with TopCashback and Quidco seems to be the looooooong time before you get your money, and it often goes wrong.
My maths ain't great after a Henry Westons Vintage cider, but if I'm only using Asda at 3%, does that mean that I'd have to spend over £330 before I could withdraw £10 cashback?
TheChimp £9.90 cashback on £330 spend. Doesnt sound much but if you are spending that with Asda anyway its free money. Would that be enough incentive for you or would you fancy a bit more?

I'd probably use the Amazon one because I spend a fortune with them. Would probably only take me a couple of months to get to the threshold even at 1.75%, so a bonus tenner would be a bonus tenner
TheChimp Yes you're correct. It would be unusual for Amazon cashback but it would be great as I too spend BIGBUCKS with them. Who doesnt. Best retailer by far. I actually do have some friends who are shopaholics yet refuse to shop with them. Its crazy. Its like insisting only only travelling by bicycle and refusing to use a car. They need to get with the times 
I do use something else that does this, I would use it if the rates were the same or better. I will say the app I use works really well and easy to use so you would need to do exactly the same, possibly add reminders in.

Yes I’d be interested in it, but it depends on the % - it needs to be competitive as there are other sites that already do this (but I’d trust LD to do it)
It would certainly be something I would look at! Esp with Amazon as like may others I spend a lot of money there! Look forward to seeing more details when / if it comes to fruition!
didbygraham Thank you for the feedback. And may I ask, some brands like Amazon can only give a very small cashback amount such as 1.5%. Would this still be of interest?
Pinkspirit Which supermarket do you shop at? Could you imagine using it every month if like you got 3-5% at the supermarket?
Tom definitely, Aldi is in my high street, Sainsbury's is through the park, a tad further to walk as l no longer drive 
I must say for me this is something I wouldn't probably use. Where I work has a scheme like this for their staff but I have never used it.

If I could use say in waitrose and in the shop yes. I'm limited on shops. My local m&s and Morrison and Iceland are franchises so we don't get deals or able to use certain voucher available in the uk
Jerseydrew Hey yes, I believe we could get it so that the gift cards work in-store like at Waitrose, Marks & Sparks, Morrisons and Iceland. You'd get a bar code that you scan at the till. Probably would have to ask the assistant, "I've got a gift card to use" and they scan it.
I am trying to stop shopping at Amazon so would probably be more interested in giftcards for supermarkets (not so much cafes) like Sainsburys, M&S or Waitrose. If Iceland is added to the list, sign me up - Morrisons is too far from me but I think that'd be a welcome addition for others. Maybe also B&Q or Boots or Holland & Barrett?
Also, as others said, I'd check the % rate, especially against other competitors mentioned, but I do most of my grocery shopping in-store so a barcode to show at the till would be great. Might be good to figure out whether standard tills could scan them or users would need to go to Customer Service tills (as specific vouchers are sometimes refused/not recognised at regular tills).
It sound like a nice saving, especially at Asda but as a technophobe I wouldn't be able to use it as I don't have a smart phone.?!
I use the other app but was disappointed when they introduced a minimum spend of £10. It was much better when you could choose the amount you needed to spend. I have to really think about whether it’s worth my while or not. I would only use this if I could choose my amount, otherwise it’s not really worth it.
I love this idea and I would most certainly order gift cards when I had enough money to convert.
I would Actually prefer to exchange the amount into gift cards rather than cash being put into my bank account.
If I had enough to exchange then I would use this feature regularly.
The gift vouchers I would love to see are:
Argos, Boots, Matalan, Marks and Spencer’s, Morrisons, Tesco, Asda, Waitrose, New Look, Sainsburys and Iceland. There are probably more shops that would be great to exchange cash for gift cards but I’m out of ideas for now 
taracooper1 Thank you for the feedback, yes I think putting it towards another gift card makes sense as an option. Most of those shops seem possible!
I like an Amazon gift card because I have to shop around and don't always go back to the same supermarket as the prices a lot 
it takes around 3 to 4 months getting £50 exhausting but do appreciate it. Like I said before if somebody buys from one of your offers maybe we should get extra points when we go direct
I would definitely be interested. It's actually how I shop these days. I use a couple of apps already, and if the percentages were on par, then count me in. I buy gift cards for all the supermarkets that I shop in these days. The only one that I can't find gift cards for on the other apps is Lidl, but the rest are normally available. One app pays for my phone bill every month, and the other is just used for some spare cash. It's a great way to shop and earn some extra cash.
