Should There Be Guidelines When Re-Posting Deals from Other Sites?

Other

Lately I've noticed a couple of users who quite literally just copy and paste deals from HUKD to LD and this can negatively impact LatestDeals as it can be seen as "A website where people just repost deals from HotUKDeals."

There is the argument that in special circumstances two users can post the same deal at different times but what differs here is that these users post word-for-word and even picture-for-picture, just total, pure laziness. Well, not just laziness but lack of self-respect and morals, too. Finding deals by yourself isn't that hard.

Does the staff and genuine users really want LD to be seen as nothing more than a poor man's version of HUKD? That's where it's heading with users constantly stealing deals from there. I don't want to say I told you so, but I told you so.

I've been with LatestDeals since the early days when it was called Pedlar so I have some sentimental value for the website to grow in huge popularity and to be cherished. As right now with these users, it isn't.

P.S. LD just like HUKD should be a place where people genuinely find deals instead of shamelessly copying and pasting them from one place to another.

P.P.S. I won't be posting any deals/freebies for a couple of days, a week or so because I'm going abroad and I just hate posting deals via a smartphone (I'm picky about how my posts look 😛).

Morning Rockman,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

I know it’s a bit of a bug bear for you and imagine it probably is for some of our other members too.

However, we do need to balance that with wanting to be the go-to deal resource and that will, likely, mean deals being shared on LD that were originally found elsewhere (Facebook groups, voucher sites and, of course, HUKD).

I’ve always been quite open that I personally would like to see people credit the original deal hunter (by name/username) if they do spot the deal on another community. And, with respect to copying content, we’d always frown on that if it were original content handwritten elsewhere first. On that front we are keen to try and incentivise the community to add their own opinion on a deal - if you have any ideas as to how we might encourage the lovely folk of LD we’ll definitely take it on board.

Its quite a tricky one to police too - for now, I think occasional topics like this give people a polite reminder and I’ve also updated the guidelines* to recommend people credit the original deal hunter if found elsewhere first.

* Almost updated the guidelines - uncovered a bug when I tried to save the page so will have to fix that first 😁

Hope you enjoy your trip! 🙂

Morning everyone.

As you know, I have just started to post deals and I did notice one on HUKD. But I went to the actual website and posted from there.

I think it's a tricky one to police as users will find their information from a great array of different sources.

I am anticipating it will be a bit of a bun fight for listings with the run up to Black Friday.

Cheers, C.

Maybe the posts you are talking about are being posted by the same person, ie they're are posting on both sites? Maybe they are just copying and pasting the details of the deal from an email or website where they found the deal?

I'm not sure how you can think anyone would think of LD as a poor man's version of HUKD. If anything HUKD is a poor relation of LD! Seriously, I moved over to LD from HUKD because it got so bad over there. They kept changing things, not listening to members until it got to a stage where I just didn't want to be part of HUKD any more. I know lots of people moved over to LD too. Since I have moved over to LD, I have found people to be so friendly and welcoming, the LD Team are great and listen to members. The way we get rewarded for sharing deals etc is awesome, and I for one really appreciate it, thanks LD!

Surely the important thing is that people are sharing deals with each other so we can all benefit and help each other? To be honest I don't even see a need to visit HUKD any more, so I really don't care who is posting what over there, LD is much better!!

Not by the same person as they're posted by multiple users at HUKD. Mixmixi, Buzz Duraband, Noahsdad, Turkey, Gamerofgames and among others.

I know that if I hadn't posted the Mario 3D Land Selects deal first here that Bestoffer or some other would copy it from HUKD rather than finding it themselves.

Rockman If it's all the same posts on both sites, why not just pick one and stick with it, especially if it bothers you so much that the posts are the same! How do you know they are just copying it, rather than they have also discovered it from an email or site online, just as you have presumably? I often come on LD to share something only to find someone has just posted it. I doesn't bother me, and another day it will be someone else in the position after I have just posted a deal they were looking to share! Surely the important thing is that people are sharing, who really cares who posted or where they found out about it from?! As I said before I couldn't care less what is posted on HUKD any more, the site went downhill so fast when they 'updated' their website, and the fact they didn't give a stuff about what us members thought or wanted from the site, when they were relying on us populating the site with info and visiting so they were successful. LD are far better, and I for one am glad someone on HUKD shared about LD as an alternative, and am now more than happy to visit every day and get involved with posting and taking advantage of the posts in a friendly, positive environment!

Hubby uses HUKD. Personally, I prefer LD because the layout is better for those of us who are not so technically-minded.

I often find deals that I post on Latest Deals appear within just a few minutes on other dealsites.

And loads of deals on HUKD and other dealsites are first posted elsewhere.

If the pick of the best deals on the web are to be found on Latest Deals, then great.

My view is that if you see a good deal – SHARE IT HERE!

Copy and paste are quite different from actually finding deals oneself.

When I used to post at HUKD you literally copied the exact deal I had on there and posted it here. And I'm the culprit. lol

I think we should be leaders. This website is the best anyways. I think if the others share something really good, we should share them.

Agreed but credit should at least be given to the original user who found the deal and that's not being done by the reposters.

For example, this has just been posted and it was already available at HUKD before (link below). There's no denying that he looks the deals up on HUKD to post on LD. Lazy way of finding deals, tbh.

Rockman

I saw the Mumba Nintendo Switch case deal on Ace Deal Club which is probably where the Hot UK Deals dealhunter got it from.

It doesn't sound right to me to credit a HUKD user who actually found the deal they posted on another deal site.

Who's to say who the original poster was?

This is the internet, good deals get shared, and often go viral, fast !
