Lidl vs Aldi

Ask a Question

Lidl V Aldi - both have some great offers, and I know they are competing for vegetable prices but which do you prefer?

I prefer Aldi, it has a bigger and better range especially their middle aisle, i feel like Lidl is the cheap version of Aldi, the store atmosphere isn't as good

Aldi for me. The meat in our local Aldi is always brilliant. Most of my shopping I can get in there really cheaply and just do a few odd bits elsewhere. I just can't get used to lidl.

Aldi. It’s seems a lot better lay out of the stores and with more options. Cant seem to get everything in Lidl. It’s not a great shopping experience

You are lucky we have 2 Lidl's here and all they do is that low grade parbaked crap bread where bread is half cooked injected with chemicals frozen and then finally cooked completely instore typical of convenience stores and service stations neither of ours have a proper bakery.

I think it is hard to decide. Somethings are better from Lidl and some from Aldi...

After shopping in both Aldi and Lidl I came to the conclusion that Aldi is the best shop for me, in my opinion I feel that Aldi has the edge over lidl.

I can't really tell the difference to be honest they seem very similar to me and some of their products although branded differently are identical and clearly from the same factories. I've not used them enough to decide which is better for fresh fruit and vegetables as our Aldi is still being built so only shop at Aldi when away. Lidl's fruit and veg can be a bit low quality to say the least and you have to be a lot more careful buying it but still I find I've got food that I have to chuck out when I get home because I didn't spot one item was bad in the pack. Same can be true of other supermarkets just nowhere near the same frequency. I can't complete my shop in either store and would always have to get additional shopping elsewhere and some of the products in Lidl are below acceptable quality to me mainly processed foods.

Truth be told I tend to always have access to a voucher when I shop and that dictates where I shop to save the maximum money ensuring I only buy items that are good value in that supermarket. It seems to me every supermarket has some items I really like or are exceptional value so I rotate my shopping for that reason. Also I get bored of the same food so like to try different food. Lidl's and Aldi have quite a poor limited selection often with only 1 choice of certain items which I don't like.

I dont shop in either frequently but having been to both recently Aldi was much better I found, Better layout, nicer looking items & much better choices. Enjoyed the Aldi middle aisle too, Picked up a pair of real sheepskin slippers for 15 quid. Bargain!

Only pop into Aldi or Lidl if there is something I know that is on offer that I want, otherwise usually Tesco for me as I prefer the much wider choice of products , also Tesco offers are pretty good usually

We only have Lidl, however there is talks to add an Aldi.

We do try and get to Aldi when away from home.

I very rarely go to Lidl because there isn’t one near me, there is a new one being built about 15 minutes away but I have an aldi 5 minutes away so have always shopped there... the only problem is I can’t get everything there and they are often sold out of a lot of basic items (never have cheese and onion crisps for example!) so I have to go to asda too 🙄

That’s probably depending on a store. They both have similar prices and choices. I used to have a local really large Lidl and was great but I moved and my current one is so terrible that I never go there.

  1. I think Aldi is a touch better, but the Lidl is closer to me, so i go to Lidl more often. And Lidl has self checkout. The queues at Aldi are horrendous

Has to be Lidl for me, my local Aldi is far too cramped with such a limited range, the staff always seem stressed whereas my local Lidl is bigger, has better parking and nicer staff

Aldi slightly has the edge for me. As others have said, better atmosphere and great quality meat. I like the preprepared meats at both and really like the bakery at lidl. Lidl also has better parking but I guess that depends on your store. There's actually about 3 aldis near us so I can usually hunt down the specific deal items I'm after.

Lidl is great for bulk buying, I've never seen such large bottles of sauce and packets. I've heard their bakery items are great.

I love most of the Aldi alternatives though and a lot of their packaging is recyclable unlike the mass that isn't in Lidl 😣

So Aldi wins it for me. Some of their tasty alternatives are much better for you than the brand versions too.

I try to avoid both in this country but when I’m abroad I use both. Totally different atmosphere and food is not thrown at you when are paying.

I prefer to use Aldi and for the simple reason it's a bit closer to where I live than Lidl.

I shop all over, can only get my Irwins Soda Bread in Waitrose so even shop there if working a few miles away on other side of Sheffield, anything for my Irwins Soda Bread, it's made in Portadown where my partner is from & we love it!

I walk almost 3 mile after my shift to Waitrose then walk across & do my Aldi shop.

If working 20 min from home I can walk to Morrisons in 20 min, Aldi 25 min or Asda 20 min other way!

I even have Iceland 5 min from home!

On odd occasion my partner goes to Lidl on his way home from work...
