What is the Most Likely Time to Burgled in the UK ?

Ask a Question

You would think most burglaries are done under the cloak of darkness, at night

But you would be wrong according to this article

More happen between 3 and 5pm, the time of school runs to pick up the kids, which makes sense

Other tell tale signs you are out are parcels left on the step and too much info on social media

So think about installing cameras, even dummy cameras are effective , good lighting and even leave the volume up on the tv when out

I've read the dark web has some sort of markings they put outside buildings to show it is a viable target for burglaries. I've never accessed the dark web myself but the information on there about burglary opportunities might also be good information to prevent them. I.e. if you noticed a marking on a wall outside your house and you knew the significance of it you could remove it.

BonzoBanana I think i saw something on facebook once B, someone in the know had posted a few of the symbols used to let the criminals know if a house is suitable for invading, one symbol told them if the owners were in or out at certain times , if there was an alarm etc

I'm not sure there is a time if somebody wants something so badly they will probably wait till you come home and take your car and keys off you that's the world living today where you cannot retaliate

Pfs They use rods and hooks sometimes to take keys hung up by front doors P, and if keyless have special electronic equipment that copies the signal to your fob to gain entry to the car

telmel The fact that close to a million people are driving without tax, insurance or a MOT just shows how the police and the courts just don't punish to the level that deters crime unfortunately. We seem to live in a very idealistic country rather than a realistic country so of course we end up with many institutions simply not working. My mother was in our local one stop yesterday. She was waiting for someone to serve as was a young man in front who had a bottle of wine to pay for. The staff left the till completely unattended for quite some time doing something in the back of the shop and the young man just left with the wine without paying after getting annoyed about waiting. Those costs will be added to everyone's bill. If they lose 3% of stock because of theft they will increase their margin to compensate. It's likely every similar store has a similar theft level unless you are in some well off village which lack criminals.

BonzoBanana Yes personally think our laws are getting softer and not tough enough. Also, we live in a world if you tell the truth then you're a snitch or grass.

Pfs Yes when my mother was eventually served she didn't tell the staff member about the theft. She felt awkward about it. I wouldn't of stopped the person leaving but would have told the staff member about the theft and may have shouted to the person to return the wine, not sure. You know there is little protection from the police nowadays and no real punishment for criminals so you have to think intelligently about what is happening, try to do the right thing without putting yourself or your family at risk. We are slowly turning into a country like you see in South America where you can't upset gang members as you may end up dead. We aren't there yet for sure but maybe 10-20 years if we keep following idealistic nonsense rather than go for realistic solutions to these problems.

They scout out the areas and earmark potential properties, often entering from the back and exiting the front to avoid suspicion. They often get away with it knowing there are hardly any close knit neighbourhoods anymore (or rather they target those particular neighbourhoods)

I'd say mostly through the day, people at work, then there is the opportunists knowing mam's or dad's go out to pick kids up

A few years ago when I opened the front door a couple of matches fell on to the tiles. Later I was told thieves push them in and if the matches are not disturbed it means the house is probably empty.

I'd suspect at night.

And here are tourists who decided to go to London for a vacation only to be robbed and be left traumatized by it:

If only they had their 2As with them, but it's England, not America.

Stun guns are banned? Criminals don't care.

If you want to come to London for a vacation, then do your trips during the day because it's very risky at night and the police won't really do much.
