Littering !!

Other

I seem to be on a moan fest today but something that annoys me immensely is littering. How difficult is it to pick up your rubbish after eating a McDonald’s or anything else in a lay-by ???

Why do so many people throw rubbish from their car whilst going along ??

I live in the beautiful countryside and am fed up with seeing litter strewn everywhere and it seems to be on the increase.

I often go outside with a black sack to pick up the rubbish outside my house. Beer cans, kfc and McDonald's wrappers, cigarette boxes etc. I am torn between why should I have to do this, or living amongst the rubbish. There are those who don't give a hoot and those who wouldn't dream of littering, unless you teach kids early on they are litter bugs for life.

My 4 were bought up hearing ‘don’t you dare throw that on the floor or out of the window!’ I used to throw a blue fit if it looked like rubbish was getting launched and now I’m the same with my grandkids.

Those who do drop litter should, in my opinion, be hit with very big fines. If they can't afford to pay an alternative would be to send them out with litter sacks and perhaps distinctive clothing and be sentenced to collect a certain amount of litter from the streets, eventually because fewer would drop littter the task would become harder and harder.

Those who are paid by councils to pick up litter wouldn't need to be out of work - they could supervise those sentenced to pick up other people's litter.

Littering should have a minimum 40 hours community service picking up litter and the cost of the pleasure of the courtroom for an hour

Those who drop litter should be made to do litter picking around their area. If they refuse then either fine them or send them to prison.

Should be no option to refuse. Community service to picm litter up for 40 hours. Rich people will pay the fine rather than have a bit of humiliation for doing so

People should pick up after themselves or keep the litter in their bags/cars till they get home or put them in bins. When I was in school I always picked the litter up both outside and inside. I also used to put the chairs on the desks. I was always rewarded with merits which meant more green cards and thorpe park trips so doing this paid off.

Can't stand litter louts, makes me sick not only is it disgusting and unnecessary but i live in the countryside too and I'm sick of seeing and helping foxes and rabbits cut and hurt from the plastic lids on the cups, we regularly clear up others rubbish as we can't stand it. One woman as we were clearing up one day flung her cup out onto the ground and laughed, she then said to my son who was 6 at the time, you've missed one and laughed, i won't go into what i said or did but don't think she's ever been back and she took more than her rubbish home, definitely shame them and make them do community rubbish collecting.

We recently saw someone dropping litter but I had to stop my husband approaching them for fear of a punch. He was a rather tall well built chap and gave me the impression he would retaliate!

I agree....and than we pay the plastic tax, when people just throw everything everywhere any ways.

They should just punish people who throw the rubbish away and if the council trash it to the sea, they should pay the plastic tax

Well, this is the society you live in and it's considered "normal" now.

People constantly throw beer cans, food wrappers or boxes, even food in my front garden all the time. It drives me nuts. I was by my window once and saw someone finish a huge bottle of milk and throw it right there. Disgusting behaviour.

That's horrible honestly don't know what would possess someone to do that dad enough dropping it in the street but to intentionally throw it into another person's garden! 😠

Zoepop I know it's nuts. my bins are right there too, so I wouldn't mind people using my bins, I do mind picking up other people's trash from my garden though.

yes I agree. people have no pride in their surroundings. I even saw someone throw a bag of rubbish on the street. looks like they took it from home to do so. disgusting

This is definitely what irritates me most in humanity.

In my building, we have large separate bins for recyclable and non-recyclable waste, and every time I go there to take my rubbish, people threw paper boxes, bottles and plastics into the non-recyclable bin while the recyclables bin is full of black bags, food, etc. How can people be so selfish and stupid like that?

How to expect a better society if people do not even want to separate a simple rubbish bag? Awful
