Living on Yellow Stickers

Money Saving

For a while now I have been doing the weekly shop a bit differently.. As we have meat in most meals iv been going to my local co op or tesco each day (when i'm in the area) and picking up the yellow sticker meat ( plus some other yellow sticker items) And then i just do an online asda once a month for veg and cheaper food cupboard items. Saving an absolute fortune!

I used to do this a lot but would end up with a lot of stuff in my freezer that we did not get around to eating, just make sure it is something you are going to eat that week is my advice.

I buy the yellow sticker items when I can. Unfortunately don't have time to go to the shops everyday. When I see yellow stickers I will buy a few and freeze. Got a bunch of yellow sticker mince in the freezer. Got a loaf of bread for 18p the other day, it's in the freezer too.

SaveMeSunday I always freeze bread and rolls. Just defrost when I need them. Can toast bread from frozen too, do it for my son all the time.

MrsCraig I have frozen bread and never had an issue with but if I freeze fresh rolls these never seem to defrost properly. If I buy frozen ones they are fine.

eyeballkerry I freeze fresh rolls all the time, I've never had a problem when defrosting them.

MrsCraig Maybe I leave them too long but they seem to fall apart and crumble when I try to defrost them.

eyeballkerry I usually take them out about an hour to an hour and a half before I need them. I've never had a problem with them crumbling. Do you leave them covered up when defrosting?

SaveMeSunday I put the last few wee dry slices in the freezer. If I want toast I use that instead of fresh bread

We always do yellow stickers, best time for my supermarket it about 3.30 - 4 when they become double yellows. We only ever buy items we would have bought and put the difference in our piggy bank and the grand total for 2023 was a whopping £1157 which nicely covered a holiday and Christmas.

Use em all the time but I notice nowdays some things are like 50p off of on the day so not as much a bargain as might be desired.Needs be at least 30% discount to be half worthwhile.

Very rare I pay full price for my shopping. I always try to buy my shopping with reduced stickers which is most days. A couple of weeks ago I picked up three beef joints reduced to £3.40 each from the Co op. They had 20 of them to sell off and I did leave them for other customers to buy. Image

It definitely pays to find out times when items are usually reduced in your local supermarkets 😃

I haven't really been lucky enough to pick up many yellow sticker food for a while, did get some meat after Xmas which went in the freezer. I guess it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

In my old job I used to drive past to tescos on my way home at reducing time . Would be so happy when I got freefrom on offer and put it in freezer. Now days. In new job haven't got time to pop in as miles out of my way.

I had a bit of a strange experience in the Yellow sticker sections of Morrisons as the staff were removing all of the items on display. This was mid afternoon.I did not ask why they were doing this as I thought perhaps they were being given to a charity whose need was greater than mine.

I would love to do this but sadly I have no idea what times the supermarkets start to reduce items

Sometimes the yellow stickers can work out more expensive if the item was in a deal. People should also be careful not to buy things they normally wouldn't just because its reduced
