Do You Have a Local Bank Still?
Ask a Question
Do you still have a local Bank branch?
So many of them are closed now forcing more to go online, but a lot of the elderly are going to struggle without a local branch.
I'm old school and prefer to go into a bank and see a human being, however my last bank in my high street has closed about two months ago, so from Lloyd's, Barclays, Nat West and Santander. All we have now is a post office, l now have to walk or get a bus 3miles to the nearest town that has my bank in, l will not do internet banking, so I've no idea what I'm going to do in years too come...maybe under the mattress
Pinkspirit I believe you can use the Post Office for the same effect as your Bank. I paid money In to a Post Office a few years ago and I dont even have a Post Office account. That deposit then went to my Bank. You can even check your balance etc. Pay Cheques In, withdraw Cash.
All the banks in our local town have closed. Most people rely on the local post which isn’t idea or have to travel 15 miles to the next town.
We have one bank left in our small town so it’s a 20 minute bus ride into the city. Cant get much information from the local bank so a bit reluctant to change banks and then it closes.
There is one in town but no counter service. All the small convenient ones are gone. There is a hub in the small town I work but yet to use it. I hate the way we have been forced to use online/machines. Some people still are only able to do the old way but they don’t care about them.
We have a Nationwide still open in our local town, back about 15 years ago we had Lloyds, Barclays, NatWest, HSBC ,TSB and Co op but all closed one by one , and so did their cashpoint machines .But not only have the banks closed most of the buildings now stand empty in the town
Yes we still have a local bank branch. It isn't often that I need to go in but I like that it is there if I need it. My parents have to travel about half an hour to get to their bank. Not a problem for now as they can both drive but once they get older it might not be as easy for them to get there.
The Yeovil Halifax branch is absolutely huge inside with lots of open space. Seems an un-necessary size and there is rarely any people in it. We have quite a few banks in town but it feels like nowadays banks only need to be small buildings with a couple of people. They really should be down-sizing rather than disappearing. Nationwide seems to have reasonable size buildings but even those could go smaller I feel. When I went into a post office yesterday they accept both Evri and Royal Mail parcels and I feel like banks should start sharing resources so 1 bank can be used for multiple bank brands. The government should force them to provide high street banks and if that means multiple banks in one building so be it. Lots of elderly people and even less tech savvy younger people need high street banks.
Our Halifax closed in Feb and Barclay's, Nat West has gone but still have Lloyds and Coventry which is a huge branch and always empty so that probably won't be there much longer either.
Sadly all our local banks are closed. I think it's totally wrong. My closest one is 10 miles away !! Really unacceptable . I also feel for the elderly it's really unfair
Only bank we have left in our town centre is Halifax, we had loads at one time, Santander recently closed their branch
I still have two banks that I can use in the high street. To be honest I don’t use them a lot but if I do I like to speak face to face with someone.
I love Internet banking. But if I need to pay money into my account I won't use the machine I don't trust them. I prefer going to the cashier. I'm antisocial but this is a service I like to use
Yes we still have our local building society in town but the banks are closing. Barclays went a few weeks ago from the high street. My building society has a sign up in window saying if your bank has closed down then move to us as we are not going anywhere!
We used to have 5 banks and a Post Office, now we have 1 bank and a Post Office. Terrible state of affairs.
Why do they not pull together and put Banking Hubs in the towns and share the cost and help their customers?
