Is it Worth Fighting for a Warranty Claim Without a Receipt?

Ask a Question

I bought a suitcase in 2021 and it is guaranteed for 10 years. However I didn’t keep the receipt as it’s a name brand and a new model so didn’t bother. The zip has just broken and the company will not even entertain looking at my complaint as I have not got the receipt.

I have got the bank statement but they won’t except that?

Please be careful when buying anything and don’t get caught out. I am wondering if I can get a payback payment from my bank but not sure if they will.

Has anyone got any advice?

Thank you

I do keep all my receipts for a while then go through them and keep the important ones but it is a nuisance. Many suitcase have guarantees but read the small print and you are not covered for airport damage.

In most cases to have that long warranty you have to register it on their website and provide proof of purchase. I had an issue with some products from RH appliance manufacturer, and they tried to fob me off but I stood my ground and they had to provide free replacement.

You may be lucky if you ordered online you may have a proof on your email .

Where did you order it from as in some cases you may be lucky and can ask for a copy like from Argos if you give them a date and time of order and an amount spent

SebK84 Matalan has just got back to me. They would have sorted it if it was a year old or under.

However if I go onto my account it should be on there. I have just got to work out how to get my account up as I haven’t used it since I last bought the suitcase. So I’m hopefully getting closer.

julie781x You created an account with your email, if you still have access to that email click on forgot the password. I cannot comment on how long Matalan keep receipts.

www.matalan.co.uk/login.jsp?returnTo=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.matalan.co.uk%2FaccountHome.account

I would still try on your email, type matalan and look for the date you purchased and the invoice may be there

julie781x Have you tried looking for it on your email address as it may take them a while to locate. I usually keep my online receipts/invoices in a warranty label which I created on gmail and move all invoices there

SebK84 yeah that’s what i was going to say, usually for these long warranties you register online. It’s pretty unreasonable to expect someone to keep a receipt for 10 years.

Whilst it is a branded suitcase without the receipt they don't know if you bought it brand new or if you bought 2nd hand from someone.

If you bought it online you might still have the order email which could act as a receipt.

I'd advise doing a scan or take a photo of them because they eventually become unreadable and then without it, you're screwed out of that warranty based on the receipt.

I always keep my hard copy receipts in a small box for as long as I think I need them, all my online receipts get saved into an online folder.

Obviously 🙄 you need to keep receipts for anything electrical and especially for branded suitcases 🧳 my family had the same problem brand new and it broke and stated has 10 year warranty

It was sorted out took them a while to do so all via emails and a new one got delivered to our home

It was a global brand so think the delivery was all free covered in the replacement and think it costs over £100!

I keep all our receipts for a number of years then get rid of them if they are no longer needed
