Looking to Move
Ask a Question
We are looking to move within the next 12 months. We want somewhere quiet. Don’t need amenities close by. I like the sea but also like the country side. Where would you recommend?
It depends if you want to move within England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. We live in Scotland. We are near to a number of beaches and lots of countryside.
MrsCraig We really don’t know at the moment as we are really not tied to anywhere. I want to go abroad but due to Brexit lots of hurdles at the moment. I know Scotland has some beautiful places but it can get cold, right.
eyeballkerry Scotland can get cold but some places are much colder than others. We are in a town but close to the countryside and sometimes the country roads are a nightmare in winter with ice and snow. The more rural you are the colder it is. Especially up in the north of Scotland. But i love it here.
It really depends on your budget. If you’ve plenty of money Brighton and Lymington would be perfect.
didbygraham My husband has been looking at properties in the Cornwall area but I have never been. Would definitely have to visit first.
jdible Sounds nice but not far enough. I didn’t mention where I lived but I know quite a bit of Essex. Thanks for the suggestion.
jdible ...Love Tenby, my long time Lancashire friend J & I used to go every year to nearby Saundersfoot first week in Oct & it was always T Shirt & Shorts weather!
I would travel by train from where I lived in Sheffield, stay at my friend's house & she would drive us down to Caravan Park in Saundersfoot...
Happy memories of a beautiful place..x
jdible In all my years I have never been to Wales. My husband used to deliver at night there and took the children in turns but I never went. I do know there are some beautiful places there.
Depends on how much money you have. I live near the beach. It's lovely but expensive. Its ridiculous how expensive it is.
Jerseydrew I am originally from London, so that is pretty expensive as well. Obviously want to live somewhere nice but not paying over the top.
I live on outskirts of Worthing. We have the sea. It’s an hour to Brighton but slightly cheaper. An hour from city of Chichester and easy to get to the south downs for countryside. Having said all this there is more building going on and less green spaces but there are still some parks. You might find a nice new build though if that’s what you are going for.
JLouM My niece recently moved to Worthing and I used to work on the beach there many many years ago. I know there are some lovely places in that area. I know Chichester has many stunning buildings including the magnificent cathedral.
eyeballkerry I’ve been happy living here for 20 years and I grew up on the outskirts of Brighton. There are some lovely places around here, Arundel this side for instance (my favourite place- might go there tomorrow) and Lewes on the east side of Brighton is nice too.
JLouM I lived in Peacehaven for a few years. Used to get train from Newhaven to Lewes to go to college. Spent many days in Brighton with my best friend on the pier and at the funfair
SebK84 That sounds a lovely place, something out of an Enid Blyton Famous five book. We had some friends in Weymouth so been there a few times. I especially liked visiting Tyneham, the lost village.
New Romney in Kent would suit you both, by the sounds of it. The weather there is something else; I think they call it a sun trap, as it can be raining everywhere else in Kent but gorgeous sunshine there. As it's on the coast, there is less light pollution, so the stars at night can be seen really clearly. I remember enjoying the walk from my mom's old place, walking past the blackberry hedge, across the small bridge where the swans were, and down the lane to the seafront.
EmmaWright762 I live quite close to New Romney. I do venture to the Pilot restaurant down there, highly recommend.
eyeballkerry My mum used to have a burger bar on the seafront there as her little retirement project. Her burgers were awesome. She also used to cook bacon so the smell would drift along the beach to make people feel hungry, the crafty minx lol
PhilipMarc Sorry to disappoint, if I could move abroad tomorrow I would. We were seriously looking at somewhere near the Silver coast a few years back.
