Matalan Now Charging 99p Click & Collect under £19.99
Money Saving
I have just noticed that Matalan are now charging 99p for click and collect to store unless you spend £19.99 or more. I hate delivery charges and I also don't like paying for click and collect like Boots where you have to spend £15 to get it free - will this stop you shopping there?
I've only ever shopped in-store at Matalan as I find it tends to have some hidden bargains. I'll probably keep going there. Apparently the old Lidl CEO is now boss of Matalan:

Summary
Matalan, a Liverpool-based discount homewares retailer, has named Karl-Heinz Holland and Jo Whitfield as its new chair and CEO. They are former Lidl and Co-op executives who have experience in the discount fashion sector. The appointment of the new top team reflects the confidence of the funds that took control of Matalan earlier this year. They recapitalised the business with a £257m debt-for-equity swap and injected up to £100m of new capital. Matalan has more than 230 UK stores, an e-commerce platform, and more than 50 overseas franchise stores. It also has 11m customers.
I will still shop there as there are certain items I can't get instore so have to order online and it is still cheaper than home delivery charge.
Really...that's put me off now, I do sometimes but from matalan online (usually in their sale) and always C&C as its not far from me but I probably won't be now. I think it's cheeky charging for C&C - I'm spending my petrol to collect something from them! I but lots of clothes for my kids from george asda which is free C&C - really hope they keep it that way!
rarely shop there myself and I do feel its a bit unfair charging for C&C to be honest. I wouldnt pay it myself. I can uderstand delivery prices going up but not so much C&C
NO NO NO, this is just not what I want to hear. I won't be doing click and collect anymore, might as well just call in if I fancy.
TBH I have never been disuaded that in the UK we are literally everyday being taken for mugs and it lives up to #ripoffbritain .
I agree about delivery charges and will never pay. Wilkinson used to be free click and collect and now they charge. I prefer shopping in store but get annoyed when it is only available online.
I would keep shopping there but I rarely use them online as we have one in our city centre and it's easy to get to. I had to laugh other day though when they said I'd won a 'prize' and it turned out to be 10% off if I spent another £40 with them.
Personally I think it's wrong, surely if you are working in a shop you want to keep busy anyway, you might enjoy your job, but in reality, you go to work to earn money to pay your bills, whatever they should be, you don't want your day to drag either, so filling a click and collect order would be a distraction surely, it's not exactly a hassle if the orders are already in store, and shop assistants get paid to do a job, also, with more people watching what they spend, I would have thought shops would have done things to encourage shoppers not send them away, it's always people sat behind their desks, or suits, as I call them, who make decisions to suit the brands pocket and not the customers!
I very rarely shop there as nearest is too far to go just to browse. Everywhere charges for low price click and collect. I used to love getting bargains from the works but often think it's not worth going into town on of chance of getting one if not doing other shopping
I've ordered loads in the last few years but for them now to be charging for c & c, I'll not be ordering anything more from c & c. They're going to lose lots of customers now.
I still think it’s worth paying 99p for someone to get your shopping and you just collect it. Bargain, what’s not to like?
such a shame Matalan are now charging for click & collect. It will definitely make me think twice about placing future orders. I hate hidden charges like this and feel it will dissuade people using this method of shopping. Surely the few clothing stores that are still open should be keeping shoppers happy and not issuing these additional charges.
It would definitely stop me from buying cheaper items, can you not just spend over £20 and then return the other items or are they wise to that trick?
We would just consider that when buying, if the item we wanted was still good value factoring in the charge or not. To be honest the C&C collection service from our local Matalan is very poor, delivery to store is slow and when we go to collect we are confronted with a long slow moving queue at the single till that takes, cash purchases , returns and C&C orders. There is also about 6 self scan tills that take cards which are usually quite quiet with staff just hanging around these.
My local store is a 10 minute walk from my house so this will have no impact unless I really want something and it isn't in stock. I don't shop there regularly.
Any company that charges for click and collect I just don’t use the service or sometimes the shop. So just another to add to the list
I never pay for delivery charges, it really puts me buying a product. Charging for click and collect is taking the mickey. I would not buy on principle.
I guess you could just order something else to take it over the £19.99 and get a refund while you are still in store!
Don’t like this at all, click and collect should be free that’s why you don’t have it delivered to your door
I don't shop in Matalan, but I wouldn't pay for Click & Collect at other stores unless I really needed a particular item in a hurry.
I'd just factor the click and collect into the price and if its still a good price accept it. In the past I collected a Wilko order that was click and collect when it was free and it was all boxed up so it must have been posted to the store but the items were also available on the shelf to buy. I remember thinking surely when they get an online order for items that are stocked instore they could just put those items aside and then mark them as mine. It seemed very inefficient and costly for them to post to my store.
I will never understand why stores are charging for Click&Collect. The items are going to their store anyway. Also, they will have more people inside the store, possibily browsing and buying other items.
Although I disagree also, I can see their reason. They have to pay a driver and fuel costs to deliver to the stores outwith their normal deliveries. We dont want more stores closing due to additional costs. They would need to put the cost of their items up to cover the outlay and then people will just shop elsewhere. I would rather pay for the delivery rather than see them close. I’ve seen me pay £3.99 to get a home delivery if I really want the item. Next can afford a free store delivery as their clothes are double the price! I won’t miss 99o
