New 007 is Going to Be a Woman?

In the News

I dont mind women being given better roles so dont mind them looking for a female to take the new role of 007 in the next movie. But what do you think?

I stopped watching James Bond when Pierce Brosnan took over. That's not because I thought he was awful just bored of the similar stories and whole franchise to be honest. I really couldn't care less who plays James Bond nowadays, a woman, a midget, a disabled person, transgender or whatever for me the franchise is just a bit stale however I don't think a change from a man is a step in the right direction. I personally wouldn't like to see Shirley Holmes or Spidertran or anything like that either but I wouldn't be a customer paying to watch it anyway so I guess my viewpoint isn't important.

You get costume dramas now where the ethnicity of people playing the characters is different to what would have happened in the past at those times. There was horrible slavery for some ethnicities and yet appear as equals in some costume dramas which I feel degrades history and the horrors that happened and we should never forget the real history of those times and the suffering of some ethnicities. I actually think being PC is creating more problems than it is solving sometimes.

I just think its better to keep characters as they were written. Maybe in 2050 when every home has a robot helper and perhaps robots make up the majority of the armed forces we will have a robot James Bond. It sounds ridiculous but with 25 years of a changing society that may work for the future audience. It probably won't be a movie though it will be some sort of virtual reality experience where you are in the movie itself.

BonzoBanana Well said although you make the future seem to be a cross between iRobot and Westworld and you could well be right but I don't think I want to live in either of those places, and I won't, as I won't last that long!

There has already been a female 007. In the most recent James Bond film, No Time to Die (2021) the character Nomi (played by actress Lashana Lynch) had been assigned the 007 designation after Bond had retired. She later relinquishes the 007 code name when Bond rejoins MI6.

The replacement for actor Daniel Craig has yet to be announced, but it is unlikely another actress will be given the 007 designation any time soon. Barbara Broccoli, the producer in charge of choosing the next James Bond, has stated, "Bond is male. He's a male character. He was written as a male and I think he'll probably stay as a male... And that's fine. We don't have to turn male characters into women." - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45769767

ACR Yep. But thats James Bond Barbara is talking of as you say. 007 is a designation just as it was filled by Lynch momentarily for NTTD. This is whether 007 will be a permanent male role or be a female role. I think a change would be great. Jus my opinion of course🙂

There has already been a female 007. There was one in the last Bond film. 007 is just a designation, it's a job title so it doesn't matter if they are male or female, as long as they can do the job.

I'm set in my ways James Bond 007 has always been a man and it's worked, see no reason to change just for change sake they have always had some good strong lead women in most of the bond films anyway just not portraying Bond. It was the same with the female Doctor Who change for change sake and , they lost a lot of viewers .

It's always been a man, so should stay as that, maybe a different franchise with the same story lines, licence to iron lol (joking)

I think the format does need refreshing and this may be the way to do it. Seems a bit late to be super impactful though

I prefer a male James Bond, I have watched every one but will not be watching a female bond.

They are currently going on about trans athletes not being fair in sport, but even with fictional women they should not be portrayed as strong as men and I find it hard to suspend my disbelief.

I have never been a fan of James Bond and never will be one. I have never watched any of the JB movies on TV. It's time to end the James Bond franchise once and for all. Trying to please the "political correction brigades" is going too far.

Quite happy for a Jane Bond. Its down to how good the film is more than anything else. If its well made and has a good story line and plenty of action then I will watch in on the telly
