At last , common sense over chargers for your devices no matter what the brand
The EU is bringing in a new law next year forcing all manufacturers to use a universal charger to fit all devices
So all mobile phones, tablets, game consules etc etc will be able to use the same charger, saving millions for people
I hope we are included in this directive , not being part of the EU anymore, but i dont believe we will be excluded
At least this is good news and we are not getting 'overcharged' for something at last

I really hope they succeed as all the different chargers are a complete pain in the derriere. They get lost the same way odd socks and coat hangers do in my house. Disappearing never to be seen again until the light is off and you tred on one of those things, worse than Lego.
EmmaWright762 I have so many different chargers E i have started labelling them as they all look alike
For instance i have two for two sonic toothbrushes, two for rechargeable self stirring cups , mainly usb charging, then there are the numerous normal chargers for the laptop, tablet, phone etc etc etc
I am sure they are breeding 
I don't see how they can do this when products need different voltages and have hugely varying current demands. Also some products need DC input and others AC input. I can see a range of devices having a universal power supply that are similar but its only going to be a small part of the market. Seems like another EU directive to make it awkward for some companies importing products and therefore they may not bother allowing higher cost EU designed products to succeed with less competition from imports. Some laptops are using USB 'C' now as a standard way of charging but it won't work of course for high power gaming laptops I would of thought and is not going to be suitable for desktop computers or games consoles etc which need a lot of power.
Also different devices can be more fussy about the power they use, some expect much smoother power with less ripples and other devices have more built in capacitors to accept rougher power supply's.
Some devices allow a slow charge with USB 'C' but also have a fast charge option with their proprietary power supply which may be higher voltage and current. I could be wrong about this but I think USB C allows for both 5V and 12V power output but it has to receive a signal to switch to 12V. Making a universal power supply that can cope with more varied power demands may mean more components and more complexity so will be less reliable which is another issue. It could increase the chance of lithium ion fires.
Also the EU loves proprietary high cost solutions as many EU products like ebikes are very complicated, very proprietary, very expensive both to buy and repair and often throw away products even though expensive because such products become uneconomic to repair. So I'm not convinced the EU will do anything that makes it easier for consumers its probably backdoor protectionism.

Surely they should be focused on matters much mord important than this.
If people want their devices with USB-C, then buy devices with it.
About time I’ve so many different chargers even from company’s like apple the watch is a different charger to my phone it’s ridiculous and costs a lot when you add it all up
NanaP I do have quite a few devices now that use USB 'C' but before that I had quite a few devices that used micro USB or was it mini USB but newer devices have gone to USB 'C'. At some point they will want to improve USB again with new features to benefit new technology innovations and I guess that is progress. Apple is its own force and makes its huge profits from being very proprietary in what it does. I don't use Apple products so it doesn't effect me but there is some standardisation outside Apple for a lot of products.
About time!!! Yeah I agree, tell Apple. Let's hope they "bite" (LOL) simplicity at last....
