OK to Work from the Beach?

Ask a Question

Is it acceptable to work from your holiday location?

It's anticipated that six million Britons will give it a go during the summer, leveraging remote work policies. What are your thoughts on this?

Distractions: Beaches are bustling with activity – kids building sandcastles, volleyball games, people splashing around in the water. It's like trying to work in the middle of a carnival.

Glare: The glare can make it almost impossible to see your screen.

Connectivity: Good luck finding stable Wi-Fi or even decent data coverage.

Sand: Sand has a knack for getting everywhere, including your precious laptop.

Work and holidays are two separate things as far as I am concerned. Why would you want to? It’s better if on business from hotel or cafe with internet. I don’t think sand and glare is good for computer work. If you are a lifeguard, however, then that’s fine.

Sometimes we need time out.A holiday should be just that.Anything else is just bordering on obsession I think.

If the work is the same standard then it doesn’t really matter i don’t think.

I’d be fine with it. I’m very disciplined and won’t get distracted, but I’d prefer not to work on my holidays - it’s best to get some time to switch off

Not sure I would be able to on the beach but often work in the garden in summer.

Personally I can't think of anything worse then trying to use a laptop from a beach. I use tech for work at the beach but that's cos I'm on a works trip so need it to upload for work

So many people working from home these days mainly because of lock down and never went back to the office. I think it has its pros and cons. I know a few people who work from home and they get a lot of other stuff done in the day that is not work related.

As a customer I always feel that I am getting the sharp end of the stick when people are working from home. You speak to them on the phone and can hear their babies in the background and wonder how much they are concentrating on the customer. It makes me doubtful that they will remember things that need to be done, so personally, I am against it.
