Ottoman Storage?

Ask a Question

Does anyone like to buy ottomans to store items?

I got a small pink square one on sale think 2 years ago at £5! From Wilko

The damn thing was so heavy to carry around while I was walking in town back to the car 🚗!! Arms were so sore the next day!

I’ve put some items in it like handbags and cushions

Thinking to buy another one but they are pricey and read reviews on Amazon that they get damaged when they arrive.

Did think to buy those storage bags but the two current ones I’m using for years now are starting to tear apart when I tried to move them to clean my room

kitty88uk have you tried Dunelm as prices start around £19.99 and there is another which is £39.99 the dimension’s are 44x120x46. I have a large one in my bedroom which stores loads but I bought that many years ago and it’s real leather.

Used to have an ottoman in the hall of our flat but it never made it to our house as no room for it. We have a bed with 4 drawers under it, where I store all the bedding and towels. A good solid ottoman will cost you a fair bit of money. Our one was wooden and was big. Bought it about 14 years ago and it was £120 then.

MrsCraig I have a bed with two drawers and yeah it’s where I put bedding and towels too! Wow 😮 £120 is expensive!

kitty88uk for the size of it and how sturdy it is, it isn't too expensive. My mum still has it at her house, she took it when we moved and didn't have room for it. It's still going strong, no signs of age or wear and tear.

MrsCraig I see that’s true but a wooden one is heavy to move it around lol 😝 if you want it elsewhere

What does it look like can you post a photo? Did not think about those ones I just thought I’d those foldable fabric ottomans

kitty88uk haven't got a photo unfortunately. It just looked like a wooden box with a lid. It wasn't actually that heavy, as long as it was empty it was easy to move.

I use an old boarding school trunk rather than an ottaman an the bottom of my bed. I use it in the traditional way to store extra blankets and covers in. If an ottoman is heavy then perhaps it's to deter it being used in other ways such as something to stand on or a foot stall.

EmmaWright762 I see great use of the trunk! I have been with two drawers to store some clothes, bedding and towels lol I don’t use the square ottoman other than for storage or other items

MelissaLee1 Me too, but it's in my living room and the top surface doubles up as a somewhere to keep the wifi equipment on and a few nik naks 😄 who knew, trunks are the new ottaman.

I’ve got a double and a single, both from Amazon, and though they have been a good way to store things, they did start breaking down quickly. I’ve just reinforced them to last longer, but I think they’ve had their day (have had both for years)

hspexy oh really they don’t last long?! How they break? I did think to use vouchers to buy from Amazon, how much are the and are you able to share photos?

The one o got from Wilko been I think two years now and no problems

You are not supposed to put too many things inside it or put anything heavy on top

kitty88uk they started to split from the sides on the lid, and then the board came down, exposing the nails. It started warping not long after I got them, but I guess I’ve tested them to the max - the description said I could lhokd a load if 120kg, and no way have i gotten close to it, but I do have a lot of tatt inside

kitty88uk yeh I’ve also put things on top. You just end up filling it with things - I guess it tidies up the place but it’s just a mess on the insides lol

I like the traditional ottoman that sit at the end of the bed and have always wanted one but felt it was a want rather than a need. I would use it for storing my bed linen.

I also got one from Wilko years ago, but long rather than square. Looks like they still do them online, from £19.99 www.wilko.com/en-uk/navy-cross-stitch-storage-trunk/p/8047622

Square ones are available too
