Eufy seems to be super reasonable, I know they do a camera door bell and the quality looks better than the bigger branded, subscription based ones. I know with the Ring bells you can set them to record if people are in certain areas as well as if someone pressed it, you can also check them whenever you like and get images sent to your phone/google screens etc. It depends if he has wifi or not, as many of them run off that and controlled through smartphones. I'm looking at switching to Eufy.

CCTV cameras?

I'd go with a wired setup and a DVR to locally record it (you can use a 1TB HDD/SSD), but some find it more convenient to go with wireless with a paid subscription (yeah, not for me).

On AliExpress a CCTV system with 4 cameras costs about $65, about £50 before tax.

Hope those issues are nothing too serious.

PhilipMarc this one I've seen you can do both add a memory card or sign up for subscription that's £2.99 per month it's wireless too

PhilipMarc AliExpress?? Would you trust buying or owning a security camera from China!!!??? Not by me in a million years!

jam45 That's where practically everything is made. Good luck finding something that isn't Made in China.

Besides, this anti-Chinese sentiment is pretty disrespectful towards the Chinese. They're not guilty of what their government does.

The ring doorbell cameras are great for keeping an eye on the outside of your property as B said, and the free standing wi fi cameras, they are only cheap, are good to set up inside the house while you are out, you can check your mobile to see live action that all is ok at home, also you can buy a solar dummy security camera that blinks a red light as if it is real, a good deterrent as the thieves are never sure it is live or not

I got mine from amazon

Tip: Do not get a ring one as you have to pay for their subscription plus the video Is poor. Get yourself a Eufy. It might be a little more expensive but the picture quality Is much better. They have no subscription whatsoever and the footage Is stored on their Hard Drive which you get with the doorbell. Ring can be free but It will not store the recordings without their subscription. Total rip off. Ex ring user. Eufy Is much clearer and It`s 2K or 4K and totally FREE.

I have a wired set up with rechargable camera's, it records onto my phone and also shows present time. It has features such as voice, which means I can talk to people on my doorstep without having to struggle downstairs. It recognises regular faces and shows it next to the footage before I click into it. It was invaluable when I recently had an attack which turned out to only be Angina, but at the time I didn't know. I was able to let the ambulance ladies on my doorstep know it was going to take time for me to get to the door so they didn't have to get the fire brigade to break in for them.

My friends have just got some as neighbours were putting nails on their drive. She has said “We just use tp link cameras from tool station. They link individually to the wifi and James has an app so he can see things when they are triggered and also download it if you want to keep it.”

Ive got a tapo one. Cost about £45 - plug it in - pop a little card thing in it. At night it also lights up if it picks up movement. I can also press a button and talk to anyone as well.
