Do You Partake in 'Bed Rotting' ?

Ask a Question

When i first saw the title i immediately thought it was to do with not changing the bed sheets as i had not heard of the term

Then the article made it clear it wasn't this , but means lying in bed all day

This could range from having a bed day on the weekend , watching movies for example , to a regular occurence

The experts say it is not good to lie in bed all day as this could be masking some kind of depression , and people could be hiding away from the world this way

Do you think it is a normal occurrence and nothing to worry about or something that should be a concern ?

Nope on stay in bed all day if I'm sick which isn't often. It's a teenager thing. Certainly not as an adult

Jerseydrew You say that it's a teenage thing and I agree in the past it was, but nowadays I know several adults who will stay in bed watching netflix all day on their days off. I couldn't do it myself really unless the weather was really terrible.

Leannexxx good parenting. I do have one in my bedroom but can't remember last time it was on. I would never lay in bed all day unless too ill to get up.

Lynibis even when I'm ill I'm up and out of bed there has only been once that I've gone back to bed and that was when I have covid lol kids can't look after themselves so no matter what I'm up and ready for 7am

Is another saying for this A duvet day??, unless I've had an operation that renders me in a hospital bed, there is no way l would bed rot.... laying in bed all day watching movies would bore me senseless. My bed is for sleeping in (and that would be bliss just to get 5 hour straight) 🛌

I have never done this unless I am not well. To me it would be a waste of a day. I can understand the hiding away from the world though.

Only time I spend more than 7 hours in bed is if I am seriously ill and that hasn't happened in a good many years thank God.My dad never let me lie about in bed when I was young and living at home.I could stay up later than most but was never allowed to linger in bed. There were always house jobs assigned.

I stay in my bedroom if I’m not going out and no one is visiting. I have everything i need upstairs but no toilet downstairs and I’m quite disabled. I dont lie in bed unless I’m proper poorly but I do stay in my room. Why should I go and sit in another room if there is no need to ?

I find as i am getting older i spend less time sleeping, i am a late riser as i sleep late , i used to need 8 hours sleep when younger, now i find 6 to 7 hours is ample

I do feel tired when i get up but am wide awake within 30 minutes

I also think it helps doing it this way as if you are a bit weary at night it helps you sleep faster and deeper

telmel I agree with you about this if I sleep more than 6 hours I get dizzy 😵 whereas sleeping about 5/6 hours I am fine even have tried 3 or 4 hours also no problems once I’m awake that’s it, I don’t take naps but when it’s time to sleep 😴 I fall asleep quicker and I think 🤔 deeper too but always wake up early around half 7

I have my normal bed but I also have a day bed in the living room rather than a sofa. When I can't move much at all you will find me on the day bed, doing Latest Deals, arts & crafts or watching media on the laptop. It's not really bed rotting, more like I'm stuck here so what-ing lol.

EmmaWright762 That's fully understandable E, when you are ill as in your case you cannot use this term , i think it is only meant to refer to those who choose to overstay their bed welcome because of self-indulgence

I don't partake in it. We don't have a TV in the bedroom. Only the living room. The only time I partook in bed rotting was when I was at uni and we couldn't afford the heating.

MrsCraig Now that's another valid reason M , especially in the winter with the fuel crisis

telmel yup, we wore fleece pj's, our dressing gowns, a blanket and sat under our duvets. It was freezing when you had to get out though but it was what we had to do.

MrsCraig Its the sensible option M, why waste costly energy when you can keep warm other ways

telmel totally agree. I still wear loads of layers and sit under a blanket in the winter. We have the heating on as don't want our son to get cold but even then only for a short time. He loves sitting under his blanket.

No I can't do that. If I'm awake I get up and this normally at 5am. I sometimes go back to bed to wake the Mrs up and bring breakfast and have that with her in bed but once that's done I'm back up again. I get far too agitated in bed to sit or lay there for too long

I think the last time I laid in bed until past midday was when I was recovering after an operation. I'm not one for staying in bed these days, I have always had a tv in my room but don't watch it 😀.

What an awful phrase Bed Rotting is.Never heard of it before.I wouldn't dream of either a Bed Rot or Duvet day.I appreciate each new day and make sure that I am up and about by 7 am feeding my cats.Having had cancer, I treasure each day and make an effort to get the most out of each one.
