Well his series For the 'Love of Dogs' definitely lived up to its name, after he generously left £500,000 to them in his will
He donated this to Battersea Dogs Home, where he lovingly filmed each episode
I never tired watching it , he was always emotional throughout the series , showing how much he cared for animals
A charity well deserving this donation

He always struck me as someone very special.Although this comes as no surprise it shows him as the lovely man he was. 
I can't say I'm surprised about this, he had such a strong emotional connection to the dogs and staff at Battersea.
Such a lovely humble,caring, man who absolutely loved his animals & always did the best for them..
Much missed,now with Cilla in heaven "avin a bevvy" xx
I think that was part of his charm, in a world of people putting on a persona (tv) he always seemed to be very genuine.
