How Much Do You Pay for a Bag of Chips?

Ask a Question

How much do you pay for a bag of chips?

I remember paying 50p for a cone of chips or a quid for a decent bag. I heard recently about a woman who complained at a fish & chip shops who said 'The Fish & Chips were lovely but she left the restaurant a 2 ⭐ review because she felt it should have been cheaper'

SamGoodship it’s unreal isn’t it. I suppose when you think about it, rent, rates, cost of goods, wages, and then a wee bit of profit

possy yeah i have no problem really with small businesses raising their prices to keep themselves afloat. It’s the big companies taking every opportunity to bleed the common man & woman dry that’s taking the mick.

Leannexxx A friend of mine used to work in a supermarket cafe and the chips were taken from the frozen department, fried and passed off as freshly cooked chips. I have witness takeaway employees wearing their staff uniform and buying frozen food from both Aldi and Lidl.

I grabbed a Menu from work the other day as I was curious. £3.50 for large. £2.75 for small and a cone Is £2.50. Or £1.29 for a bag of Mari Piper Potatoes at the supermarket and you can make your own. I know which one I would choose.

I had fish and chips last night, cost about £20. Medium chips, jumbo battered sausage, 2 fish cakes, curry roll, curry sauce, potatoes frites. This was via Uber eats so may have been cheaper going there directly

Remember a poke ( cone ) for 20p and a pink pastie ( mashed potato, onions, spices in batter) chips for a quid. It's about a £4.50 just for chip and £1,60 for 1 sausage, with cod coming in at £7.10 and Haddock £7,15. If you want a burger then it's £5.45 for 1/4 steak burger with salad. Cheese, pineapple, onion rings are 20p and bacon 40p.

Anybargains ...Escuse me asking but are you Irish, a Poke is what they call ice cream cornet in Northern Ireland...

My partner's late Irish Mammy moved to Sheffield from Portadown when her children were little,my partner the youngest is 62 now,he tells everyone the joke about his Mammy asking the Ice Cream man for a Poke, saying it's no wonder he was round so often,we had to tell Mammy to stop saying Poke!! 😂

Our local chippy went up a while ago from £2.50 to £3 for a large portion of chips but now they have gone up to £4. The annoying thing is depending on who serves you completely alters how many you get. Sometimes a huge amount and sometimes not that many for a large portion. They do a standard fish and chip portion for £7.50 but you don't get many chips with it. Overall I'd rate them about 6 out of 10, not great and not terrible either. There are 3 other fish and chip shops within a mile in different directions and they are better I think but not by much. One is even less generous with portions though but the quality is better.

My local chippy now charges £3.50 for a regular portion of chips. They cost £2.20 before the first lockdown.

I'm not sure, I know that the chip shop is usually a cheaper option for a takeaway.

To think the amount of chips that are made though and the amount of potatoes, the time it takes to grow them, keep pests from digging them up, keep the soil healthy, the time and people it takes to do all of that and cut them, the oil it is cooked in, the business bills of the farm, chip shops and transportation etc. I completely understand about the price rises for this.
