Should People Who Are 18 Get the Same Wage as over 25?
Ask a Question
I believe once your 18 and working and doing the same job as other people over 25 you should get paid the same
Speaking from my own experience when I started work at 16 I earned less than older members of staff who had put in the years. They knew the job like the back of their hand, I didn't, so even with hindsight I do believe it was fair. But as with all things life moves on. However I do believe that experience and years put in etc should count for something.
This is something I have been saying for years. You don't get cheaper rent, gas, electric and insurance aged under 25 same bills so should be the same wages. My eldest boys left home at 19 and 20 and had to pay bills on a rubbish minimum wage and a lot more car insurance never thought it was fair
Please don't shoot me down but l have worked with all ages, sometimes the younger ones are lazy and think certain task are below them, other are quick and happy to do anything. The olders feel they have the experience and feel they should be paid more than a junior but can also work slower..as for me I'm nearly sixty have done a variety of jobs and am still only on minimum wage.
Pinkspirit agree to a point my other half was working with an agency and he was on less wages than the full time staff but yet the agency worked harder than them and when they didn't have the work he was let go
If people do the same job they should receive the same pay. End of. Bills aren't cheaper because you're young, and lower wages heavily influence people to live with parents longer, which should be down to individuals, not decided by an unfair wage structure. Anyone who think it's fine for late teens-early twenties to stay living with parents has no idea of the realities of others.
I believe with Leanne my Grandaughters been working in the same job since she was 16:people older come in on more pay but less experience doesn’t seem fair
If the job they're doing is to the expectations / equivalent to that done by over 25, absolutely.
Yes. We all have to pay the same amount for food. If an 18 year o is doing the same job as someone older why shouldn’t they receive the same wages!
If somebody can do the same job as you to the same standards then yes it should be the same wage
Lots of different jobs require different skills or strengths. In Asia woman and children have better dexterity than men for doing some manufacturing work as they have smaller hands however they don't actually get more money despite doing a better job because those countries suppress the rights of women more typically. In very physical jobs, building, mining, farming etc many men are more productive because of greater strength. As men age they often slow down with regard the level of physical work they can do so for some jobs you would expect to get less as you age.
I think the reality is there are so many variables in work that really pay should be related to the skills, experience and strength of the person.
I don't believe in the same wage for people doing the same job because it should be tailored to how productive that person is. I've seen many people on very high wages who are actually quite useless individuals in their job and others who do a fantastic job for little money but the management have other ideas who is best for the business.
In such a situation I would always try to be fair and that fairness would be who is the most productive. I've known people that are quite angry about their wage despite being the sort of people completely focused on themselves and not actually doing a very good job. They have a higher opinion of their skills than the actual reality of the situation.
There is not many situations where a young person can get a job and be worth more to the company than experienced people who have already worked there many years.
I think we all know that management often play favourites rather than care about who is actually best for the company.
I agree with what you’re saying, i always found it odd that people who are doing exactly the same job can be paid differently, by law.
