What Do People Actually Do on Community Service?
Ask a Question
I have heard of people doing community service but not seen anyone doing it.
Does anyone know what they do? Or where do they do it. The only thing I’ve seen is the program called the offenders and that isn’t a real life programme.
Saw some people doing litter picking in the woods a while back.
I thought at first they were just community minded local folk, but then noticed they had florescent vest on and were being overseen by a couple of blokes with clipboards.
blacklabrador ah right . I thought with the amount of people that get community service nowadays they would be all over the place.
Where I am people do gardening. We've a gardening patch that is used just for term. It's really nice and next to a dual carriage way
It depends on the area. Some do litter picking, some will tend to community gardens, some might clean graffiti. If they have caused damage to somewhere then their community service might be that they have to help repair it.
They do gardening and decorating, normally for the elderly who live in council accommodation bungalows ect...
Restorative justice started historically by Aborigines as a way for people to make amends for wrongs they have committed to their community. It was a useful way for people to re-establish themselves as repentant and worthy of their communities forgiveness. UK law has made a mockery of this and has turned it into cheap labour rather than appropriate retribution for the specific crime. If a crime is committed against the elderly then they should help them, if it is against children they should help them and so on.
Only community service i’ve seen is litter picking going on. I think it’s a good thing but the people doing it didn’t seem best pleased
I know round by me - as the local tip/recycling centre has a charity shop a lot of people doing community service there.
