How Do People Confuse Bought with brought...
Ask a Question
I'll show an example from a different community:
That was a lot of games he brought, but never says where to.
Reminds me of folks who also mistake using then for than.
Have you thought predictive text, that causes a lot of problems. Also he mentions Amazon, maybe he got the games there with the switches..
Antiwoke This has been going on for ages so it can't be blamed on predictive text alone.
It's another one of my pedants too.
I don't ever consider predictive text though as I don't have a smart phone - clearly they are not that smart if mistakes like that happen...
The same way they can't differentiate between their, there and they're. The same way they say everythink, nothink, somethink when there are no such words and all should end with a 'g'. Some folk are just no good at English grammar or language, it is a crying shame. If the example you give, and much more, is taught properly at primary level it stays with you for life. Some don't want to learn, some don't/didn't have access to a decent education.
Its an honest mistake and some people may not have had a good education or may have learning difficulties. It might even be the phone or whatever they have used in order to send the message.
Had to read it twice to spot the difference, I do not a have a word brian. At least I make up for it with my good looks and sense of humour.
Howmuch I've been trying to work out who the hell the Brian you refer to is.
I've got quite used to "defiantly" being used instead of "definitely" but this one took me a short time to guess what the word "interpretations" was probably meant to be.
Writing about Christmas day: "the one day a year we can all spend together without everyday interpretations".
My guess was "interruptions".
Our English can be very confusing. People often confuse similar words for example Affect vs Effect, To vs Too vs Two. The one I see a lot of is Their vs There vs They.
eyeballkerry I think it's probably 'they're' rather than they. I was raised with a very good understanding of our language with a good teacher. If children are taught properly there should not be a problem, but childrens' written work is rarely corrected and often because the teachers do not have a clue.
The written or typed word has become very lax with some people. Sometimes it is through poor education but mostly it is due to lack of pride or care in their communication. They know their friends don't mind and are not bothered of what others think of them. I like to think of them as free spirits
Happens alot, their & there , where & were as a couple of examples, predictive text can be an issue, Facebook is terrible for it
With me, it is should/would/could of that grinds my gears and I see it all the time now. Nobody is perfect and that of course includes myself, but I would have thought that it is super basic grammar that is taught during the infant years of primary school? Another one is 'your' and 'you're'.
These days predictive text cause me all sorts of issues , maybe I should be more vigilant about checking what I have wrote , before sending texts , emails etc
Many people learn words by listening and not reading them .A consequence of which, they all too often mis-spell and misuse them. That and auto correct devices .So many people say pacific instead of specific as well.
