People Expiring Posts That Are Not Expired.

Help

Tom Deepak Kelsey May I ask for your help. It is not of huge importance in the scheme of things. However, I do feel rather upset at what appears to be unfair things going on with my account. Yesterday I was happy to let it go when my topic was locked due to being political. I don't understand how it could be taken thus as it was very clearly my view on the nature of mankind and the evil we do to each other. I cited something that happened that day as an example but it was not significant to the post. But, hey ho. I let it pass as I do not want to be problematic.

But today someone has reported a competition as expired so when I reported it myself (for which I got 5 points which I didn't want or expect) I got notification that I was incorrect, even though the t & c's state clearly that closing date is 16th January. Did anyone actually check?

(The closing date for entries will be noon on 16th January 2019. The prize cannot be used in conjunction with any other special breaks or promotions such as Christmas, Gourmet Weekends etc.)

Apart from this I am no longer going to use chat because as an OAP I am becoming quite stressed by the constant harassment and bullying from another member. Almost every post is answered with rudeness and personal comments and it is soul destroying. I have never posted one single comment that is rude or personal and do not expect to receive such. I am prepared to end my membership if you think it the wise thing to do although I will miss the other lovely members I chat with regularly.

Evening Lynibis πŸ™‚

This sounds like it may well have been a mistake on our part. It does occasionally happen πŸ™ˆ

If you'd like us to investigate please drop us a message using the contact form (https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/contact) with a link to the competition in question and we'll look into it for you.

Generally speaking if you have an account-specific question please use the contact form rather than the chat section - that way we'll pick it up quicker and be able to handle it more efficiently πŸ‘

Separately, if you aren't getting on with particular members you can choose to "mute" them by visiting their profile so that you don't see their comments. Alternatively, if you feel a member's conduct is unacceptable please let us know (again via the contact form).

Kelsey - I have also had a deal reported as EXPIRED - it would have expired on the 31st January.

I reported this but have not received any reply or the posting reinstated. It would appear Lynibis and myself are being targeted by a few members (or possibly one member with multiple accounts) Surely you can see who is falsely and maliciously reporting deals as expired - not only are they depriving other members of points but are also getting points for doing so. I personally don't want points. But if you don't nip this practice in the bud and they're allowed to get away with it - where will it end?

It is over two days since I reported that my deal had been marked as EXPIRED nothing has been done about it so the culprit/s now think they can get away with it.

You tell Lynibis to block any members who she is not getting on with - so have I. It's a complete waste of time they then harass by making comments that some other member will react to.

Both Lynibis and myself have been targeted why not leave this topic open so any other members who have noticed what has been going on can perhaps let you know what has been happening. They might not like their postings of offers etc. being reported as expired (when they're not) and no one checking to see if they have actually expired before removing them.

Using the contact form is a total waste of time nothing is done about what is OBVIOUSLY not right. All I got in reply from Tom was a notification that it would be passed over to you.

This was reported to you over two days ago - surely you can see who reported my offer as EXPIRED and do something about it, and perhaps even explain why it has not been reinstated My offer was removed after I informed via the contact form that it was a malicious report; It looks as if the trolls are running rings round you.

davidstockport Morning πŸ™‚

Firstly, just to let you know that your post has been unexpired!

I'd like to apologise about your experience - a few things could have happened here and I'd just like to explain so you know where we're at:

  • We might have missed your email/report and/or it could still be being processed. We try and be as careful as possibly replying to all emails and as efficient as we can be with the speed of our responses. I would still encourage people to report things via the contact form as it helps us build a sustainable way to handle any problems members have in an orderly fashion. On that subject, there are numerous plans in place to improve our support as it is something we pride ourselves on!
  • We have automated systems to assist with moderation but it appears they've been less than helpful in this instance! We're always improving them and - although bad experiences aren't fun for anyone - they're very useful in terms of feedback and ideas on how to improve things.
  • To reassure you, we do keep track of people who consistently report posts incorrectly and remove their ability to report if they persist.

A perhaps little known fact is that you can actually unexpire your own posts. If you go into the edit options there is a toggle where you can unexpire it. I'll look to improve the notification message here to make that more obvious.

On a more personal note, whilst I haven't systematically read all your comments on LD (that would be weird 😁) I do often stumble across them and appreciate your input and insight πŸ‘

Kelsey Thanks Kelsey interesting to know about unexpiring own deals - unfortunately it doesn't address my concerns that someone is maliciously reporting deals as expired and thus getting points - affectively defrauding the poster of the points they might have obtained between expiring it and them unexspiring it - furthermore they are defrauding or attempting to defraud LD by getting points by wrongly "expiring" deals.

I can provide evidence that it is highly likely that one or more members are using proxy servers to avoid detection of multiple accounts.

I have in the past helped websites reduce trolls, this site has more than one and I assure you I will do all I can to help you reduce them or eliminate them completely. Neither I nor Lynibis appreciate posts accusing us of being man and wife - or of being the same person. Until a few days ago I had never spoken to Lynibis except on this site - it was because I saw her being bullied and harassed that I got involved.

I think I have said all I can say here so hope to hear from you by email - or even phone. I included my phone numbers in my first contact form.

Someone as again reported my deal posting as EXPIRED on11th Jan at approx 7:35 pm Will you please check that it hasn't expired before you remove it - as I'm not able to unexpire it yet - will you also check who is reporting it as expired and stop this obvious harassment. Surely you must have some way of checking who is maliciously reporting deals as expired if you haven't I suggest you get one. Image

Not being rude here, just sharing my eagle-eyed observations.

The proof is in the pudding that your post has political elements: https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/chat/inner-ugliness

Initially you said, "The title was changed to someone I wasn't even talking about". Image

Now you admitted, "I cited something that happened that day as an example". Image

I don't see why people should have to take a break from here why should bullying trolls (and Lynibis has suffered enough from them) win. This wrongly "expiring" deals is perhaps the final straw - it is they who should take an enforced break PERMAMENTLY

Good morning Lynibis ! I read your report yesterday saying people were reporting as Expired, soon after I also got to the report of this person and marked it as INCORRECT report, since the competition was still active. What I mean by this is that no matter how many times a person reports a post from you or any other user like Expired, we will always check one by one and mark as Incorrect if the post is still alive.

Another important point is that your post has continued online even after the report, which should always be confirmed by one of the mentors or administrators, so you do not have to worry about it, every day we have thousands of incorrect reports.

Thanks!

Thanks for the explanation Kikogpe, also I had not realised that you could edit your own post again to UNexpire it. It still makes you wonder why people want to keep incorrectly reporting posts.

Lynibis People often have a problem opening the link (due to some problem of their own computer or internet), we have many reports of Amazon deals, when the person does not apply the discounts and then thinks that the Deal has expired.

I will not say the user's name, but I can say that it must have been the first time I saw a report from him/her, so it may have been for some of the reasons cited above.

I don't wish to argue but I reported (by contact form) that my post had been reported as expired before it was removed - yet it was still removed.

Lynibis It doesn't make me wonder why people incorrectly report posts just which reason: They either want to harass the poster OR they want to get points for doing so....It could of course be BOTH

kikogpe In my case the offer was (in my opinion) reported by one of two people who had TROLLED my offer, one with a false accusation of FRAUD (he's removed his comment but my reply remains in the comments indicating who he was). The second - most likely the SECOND who trolled saying his vouchers had been refused (which was denied when I contacted Farmfoods) He probably realised he had been "sussed out as a troll" when I confirmed his allegation was incorrect - you don't have to be paranoid to think that the person shown at almost the same time in the notification that my post had been reported as expired, (who was also the second troll) was also the person who reported my offer as expired.

Please read the comments in my only posted offer it might explain what has been going on - especially if you Kikogpe can see the deleted comments.

Here's a link if it helps https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/deals/print-own-money-off-vouchers-farmfoods

kikogpe I've already asked Kelsey - but about an hour ago the same deal was reported as expired again - will you not remove it until you've checked it has actually expired, and PLEASE if you're able to check see who is maliciously reporting deals etc. as expired, as they get points to report expired deals they could be costing LD a lot of money. (even if they don't get points for wrongly reported expirations there will still probably be enough either not unEXpired or those reported so close to an impending expiration that no one bothers about it).

I guess I am being over sensitive. A site like this is bound to have gremlins and things can't always be solved quickly and easily. Overall the founders/staff do a brilliant job. I can see how the deal thing can happen after Kikopge's explanation, but I never post amazon deals. However, I still feel a bit miffed that the political topic was deemed to be such when politics was not even on my mind, purely observing the nature of man. Also my last paragraph above still stands and even muting does not solve the problem as apparently they can see my comments and often a reply to theirs tells me that mine has had a not so nice reply! Oh well, I am not going to let it worry me, as long as I behave!

If you often follow the competition page, you can see that I've asked the same for several other users in the last few weeks. Especially in competitions, it is important that information is complete with questions and answers as well. I'm sure everyone likes to open the posts and find all the information. During the month of December I posted 41 Advent Calendars, and every day I updated the answers on almost all of them.

Lynibis if you joined LD a couple of years ago, this chat section was dead - no one really posted anything, and no one interacted. It was only when a few longstanding members made suggestions to make this site more interactive when the founders made the changes, but being as they are still a small team, it is hard to monitor thoroughly. You can never make everyone happy, but as a result of some of the changes, I have noticed less people I used to see on here, which is a shame

kikogpe This was never the case before - when was this condition added? If it is a now part of the terms and conditions that posting competitions require that I post the answers, then I would not bother. I have never agreed with the fact that a β€˜competition’ can be so open like that, as that just means any person can just robotically click on the link and select the right answer and be in a chance to win. I am sure that making β€˜competitions’ easier is what most people want, but what is the sense of a competition if every tom, d'ck and harry will be in a chance to win? To sure about this rational - pls can Tom get in touch with me about this?

hspexy Honestly I do not know if this is part of the T & Cs, but as I told you earlier the information should be complete also containing the questions and answers whenever possible. You should realize that 99% of posts are like this.

You do not need to post your answer if you do not want to, but the competition content also includes the question. I'm sorry if this bothered you, we're all here sharing what we found on the internet, the website is made from its users.

kikogpe hspexy I really don't want to further this argument but I tend to agree that it is often a pain to find the answer to a comp before you post it if it isn't blatantly obvious. (I often post comps I am not entering myself so feel that is enough of a contribution) I have sometimes been asked for the answer when it is easily found in the write up or easy enough for a 5 year old to answer. I feel part of the fun of entering comps is that you should find your own answers and not rely on others to spoon feed you, nor should you be expected to up the 'competition' against yourself! In short, giving the answer should be optional. Also, I have found that some people are pulled up on this when others are constant culprits, which brings us back to it being unreasonable to expect to have every post monitored, but it does cause ill feeling if you are pulled on something and others aren't.

Lynibis The answer is optional, but the content must be complete, which probably includes a question most of the time.

This is a big discussion, as I said before, 95% of the posts include the question and the answer. I'm sure you like to get into my posts and find the questions and answers right? I'm sure that if all users start to create posts with only one line written "Win this TV" and nothing more, the quality of posts will drop dramatically.

This is my humble opinion, I personally prefer to see informative and quality posts, be helped and help other users too, than just see a forum with posts made anyway in exchange for points.

kikogpe Actually I always google my own answer and have twice found the poster's answer to be wrong. I also often forget the answer is given and have already looked it up before realising. You will note my posts are always lots longer than the requisite 15 words and I give lots of info, including the answer where possible. But if I am not entering myself I am not sure I should have to do the leg work for others. If the answer is optional not sure why this is even an issue and we keep being asked to do it.

kikogpe well it sounds like it is your personal preference to have everything presented to you in that way, opposed to reflecting how other people feel? and I am not going to be pestered or bullied into doing something the way someone else wants - I'm sure you are not a bully, and I appreciate that you are only 'volunteering', but you are dictating what I should and should not so, and I completely resent that. I am on here for fun - it is not a job for me, and I do not appreciate being told that you want me to change the way I do things to suit you

hspexy Well to be honest at my age I am very slow to anger but I do love a good debate and I like to think that, being a Libran, I weigh it all up fairly. I can honestly say that if I come across a comp without an answer it does not bother me a jot as I always check anyway because I don't trust anyone else to give the answer for my entry. It is my responsibility, not theirs. I was quite surprised the first time my comp was noted with a request for the answers to be given. I certainly wouldn't want to be held responsible if I got it wrong, as some are not always clear.

I do enjoy a good debate, as often there are no obvious right or wrong answers, just simply different perspectives - it helps us understand things better, and opinions can change for the better over time (or worse, whatever direction it may take)

I just wanted to add that I do appreciate your help, and that you have actively responded to all the questions we have posed - more so than a volunteer would perhaps normally do. So I do want to say thanks...even if my posts above don't look very thankful! (so sorry about that!)
