Are We Too Quick to Take Offense?

Ask a Question

For the last few months all I've had is people asking for advice or my opinion then they moan that don't like my thoughts or it's taken out of context feel like I can't say anything with my head being bitten off 🤣 anyone have these issues or is it just me

Yes people nowadays are too sensitive. Its like you just cant say your opinion on anything as they get offended but It`s OK If they say something out of the ordinary. Its been like this for years now to be honest. I honestly dont care what others think.

Emerge11 Totally agree with you. They seem to able to say what they like but you get shot down when you have your say. I thought we lived in a country with democracy not any more!

sallylester1 it's getting to a point that we will get told how to think we can't say or do anything without it getting taken out of context

I always speak my mind. I think as the years have gone by that the clutch between my brain and my mouth has worn away. My friends know what I’m like and wont ask my opinion if they dont want the truth !

I have a friend who asks me for my opinion then rolls his eyes and closes me down before half a sentence leaves my tongue. Now I just say "Don't ask me unless you want the truth or do you want a yes person.Problem is many people ask an opinion just so they can validate their own thoughts. If you dare to differ you get merry hell to pay. MelissaLee1 I totally agree with you that people really want their own ideas validated and woe betide anyone who won't give them the opinion they were looking for!

We had a disagreement with our best friends a few months ago and at the end of the debate the wife said 'Isn't it lovely that we can really disagree on something but put it behind us and not let it affect our friendship' It was a great thing to say.

MelissaLee1 I've had my friend for 3 months daily going on at me because her boyfriend of 20+ years left her 3 months ago now everything is he's fault she putting loads on Facebook she's messaging his new girlfriend I think she's using her son as a excuse to get to him and in all honesty because he was pretty much her career as she says that she's more hurt because she's got to do things for herself because he would run round after her none stop, I think he had enough and I've told her all this but no it's not down to her she's becoming obsessed with finding out what he's doing

Leannexxx I feel for you, it must be hard to hear that from her day in day out. It sounds like she could easily become a stalker and could end up in 'hot water' if she goes down that road. 😲

They obviously don’t want your opinion unless it’s what they want to hear.

Yes I’ve been having this issue at work, they want your opinion but when they don’t like it, apparently I said in the wrong way. It certainly wasn’t like this 25 years ago. I think people go out of their way to be offended.

I never speak my mind l always say to myself 'Think it, Don't say it', l don't have an opinion or view on anything nowadays as people are so offended if you don't reply with what they want to hear, keeping quiet works best for me and my thoughts of... Really!, Whatever! If you say so as you know best! All laugh about in my head 🤣🤣

If someone asks for my opinion then I will give them it.If it makes an enemy of them then I can only assume that they weren't really a friend anyway.I don't sugar coat the truth and can equally well accept it from others as well. It's called growing up lol. Image

Yeah too many snowflakes these days, I always tell people who ask, not to bother, you wouldn't like what I'd have to say, I say things as it is

It’s difficult to say but for me personally I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I think you can tell if someone is being deliberately offensive.

Absolutely YES. These days people take the slightest thing the wrong way, we all need to stop take a breath and think about it first.
