Pets Data Base and Microchipping Rule

What do you think of the pets data base and microchipping rule? Do you think it's a good idea or do you think the fine for not registering is a money scam?

Pets should always be chipped for a number of reasons

Pets should always be microchipped. As soon as we got our dog she was microchipped. When we moved house one of the first things we did was phone and change the address on her microchip. I think it is a good idea. I see a lot of lost dog posts in my area and people will take to the vets but they aren't microchipped so they can't contact the owner.

All animals should be chipped. And not only chipped, they should be Registered as well. Because just chipping does feck all.

Jinky67 I understand people wanting to chip/track their pets, but all animals? That's just bizarre and unrealistic.

Animals who live in the wild and forests have the right to freely live their lives.

PhilipMarc I clearly meant pets, since that's what's being discussed here

I remember the old days when you used to have a dog licence. I think it’s great it is now becoming law to microchip cats as well.

I think it’s a good idea my all my dogs are microchipped and the horses are too and as cats roam freely with out collars if they get injured, or lost, at least they can be reunited with their owner’s due to being micro chipped

I don't see why people wouldn't microchip their pets, it's a simple procedure.

Dogs, cats, rabbits, even some reptiles and birds can be microchipped.

If they get lost and aren't microchipped the owner only has 7 days to come forward before they can be homed with someone else. It is about a month for those that are microchipped but hopefully the owner will be contacted within 24 hours and get their beloved animal/pet back home with them.

There is nothing worse than wondering where your pet might be. I just think the council and anyone who finds an animal that has passed away, should ALWAYS check for a chip before they 'dispose' of them.

Sadly being a multiple rabbit owner of many years now and also keeping an eye on missing pet sites to the local areas, it is amazing how many people don't get them checked for a chip, if they found them... dogs often yes, cats occasionally, rabbits hardly ever.

The owners get them chipped so that they can get scanned and get them back to them, but without someone getting them checked for a chip and checking the details, that won't happen. It only works if we all work together. It will also hopefully stop animals being abandoned so often if the owner has to be held responsible.

I agree with chipping in general but I won't be getting 21 year old cat chipped, she's a house cat these days, but if I was to get more pets then yes I would
