Police Called to 'Willy Wonka' Chocolate Experience as Families 'Furious'

In the News

There was uproar at the chocolate factory in Glasgow when families complained about what they found at the Wonka experience, virtually nothing

After paying £35 per head they were expecting luxury chocolate fountains, sweets on trees and possibly umpa lumpas

But all the kids got was plastic props , a bouncy castle and a pack of sweets, and they had to umpa lump it !!

So the parents called the police to complain and the venue owners agreed to refund everyone

Maybe they were taking literally what Willy Wonka said in the movie

“There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination''

Well they definitely needed to use a lot of that there

MelissaLee1 I like the last bit M, '' In your wildest dreams you cannot imagine the marvellous SURPRISES that await YOU''

They were certainly surprised but not in a good way

Maybe they got the bronze ticket 🫢

The website for this event is still live (at the time of posting this message) - willyschocolateexperience.com/index.html

This was an unofficial event called 'Willy's Chocolate Experience' they don't mention Wonka, aside from in the small print - This experience is in no way related to the Wonka franchise, which is owned by the Warner Bros. company. Although, the imagery used on their website is Wonkaesque and the logo font is similar to the lettering found on a Wonka Chocolate Bar.

  • 'Dive into the whimsical of Willy's Chocolate Experience!, a place where chocolate dreams become reality. Book your adventure now and embark on a journey filled with wondrous creations and enchanting surprises at every turn'.

The BBC article indicates actors hired for the event had been 'learning scripts for months' but 'were told on the day to abandon them and improvise. This suggests organisers may have become increasingly concerned about getting sued by a big Hollywood studio or Warner Bros lawyers had threatened legal action if Wonka related aspects were used during the event.

ACR Ah that makes sense A , they might have contravened the copyright, so the actors did a runner

Think it was more a trading standards issue then the police given how many shops are struggling with shoplifting

At £35 a head we definitely wouldn't be going there , I'd want an everlasting gobstopper for that money lol

Sounds like a sad attempt to align with a 'box office hit' and make some cash 🤑... guess they couldn't afford to do a better job of it 😬🙄

I heard about this. A few props set up miles apart. I don't think the cost of everything was estimated properly.
